Default ****MY JIC story****

Well about 1 year ago i picked up a set of JIc flt-a2's from a friend of mine (Brand new in box)

I finally got around to putting them on and using them (some time ago)

After a couple months and a fair amount of miles i was changing my brake pads one day and noticed that one of the shocks was leaking upon inspection. I figured well its not much which it wasn't at the time so i figured no big deal keep an eye on it see if it gets worse.

The suspension just kept feeling looser and looser bounced more and more started to feel like cut springs on stock shocks, so i pull the wheel off to see that one of the shocks puked on itself and all the others are leaking.

I call ben @ JIC he says take some pics (so i do)

I send him the pics and he preceeds to question when where and how i got them i told him i picked them up from a friend blah blah orginally bought here at this time yes i understand there not under warranty but here is what happened.

After exmaining and sending pictures to his "engineer" he states "this is the old model" i say ok so whats different about these and the new model? "i don't know" Ok well how about getting my shocks rebuilt? "there are no parts available"

ok so @ this point im getting the shaft as
JIC can't rebuild my old shocks so i start to question about what exact design changes took place and why. After reading about all the other JIC mishaps i can only guess that it was a shoty design.

We go round and round and i tell him your cust serv. sucks blah blah. Told him i dont want new dampers just mine simply repaired and functioning correctly he keeps telling me there are no parts for them.

Eventually it came too nothing was going to be accomplished so i just cut my losses and end the conversation

I brush it off and figure well my loss no biggie i guess just ride on them until i can get something new.

15 min later phone rings
"this is casey"

"hi Casey this is Ben from JIC"

"What can i do for you ben?"

"Can you send your old shock back so we can inspect them see what parts have failed and maybe order them from japan"

*think to himself is this the same guy that repeatedly told me there were no parts available for these*

"no Ben i can't, i can't afford the downtime and i also dont want one of your products on my car any longer and i will do my best to inform ppl of this situation"

So pretty juch jic = shitty product, shittier customer service

P.s. sorry if its lengthy and confusing and for typo's

Here's a pic of the the puked shock

....Koni has the best customer service ever! Their shocks are rebuildable....

This is just another example of why you gotta think about the whole picture when purchasing a product...do they have a good customer service rep? are the parts available when I need them? What is the turn time?

(that is in no way directed at you Casey, just using it as an example)

Damn that sucks. You don't have the stock springs or your old ones to put on. i would let them take the JIC's and replace or rebuild them.

So the guy ends up trying to help you and you blow him off? Because you'd rather drive around on some busted shocks than have "downtime"?

Is that the gist of it?

My thoughts
1) You and all the other people jumping on these JDM products should think about these things before purchasing, not after they break
2) Your story, and the way you wrote it, make you sound worse than them.

It`s kind of hard when everybody probably swore by these a year ago after getting 10% off or something. Including plenty of reputable members.

Nobody realy knew much about them til` Lee dyno`d them.

bummer man.
but it sounds like he tried to do the right thing in the end by calling you back.

though he should have been more helpful in the beginning...
because it has now lead to this thread,

which I could wager is going to cost them at a sale if not more.

Sounds like JIC was trying to do you right (finally), by having you send the dampers in, but you're unwilling to see if they can help. Just my $.02. Might not be the exact solution you were looking for, but they didn't tell you to go f" off.

Sucks what happened.. but I would of still tried to get them rebuilt, then sell them to some poor soul to get some of that money back. I definity feel your pain. If you spend that much on something, you should expect it to be high quality. Sadly it isn't..

I have the JIC FLT-A2s, send them the shocks and let them correct the situation. I had a slight problem with one of my shocks (adjustment **** broke off). Other than that they have been fine, with the exception that the dampers are super stiff for the street.

Would I go with Konis next time around, probably, but hey this is JDM, right?!

How was Casy wrong not to deal with the guy?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">"Can you send your old shock back so we can inspect them see what parts have failed and maybe order them from japan" </TD></TR></TABLE>

"maybe"??? JIC doesn't even know for sure they can fix them!

I'm not going to wrap a shock up , pay to ship it , then risk having to pay shipping to get the shock back. Its simple ,either they can fix the shock...or not, no "maybe" crap.

never said he would fix them they just wanted to look at them. and previouslly the guy said they couldn't do anything with them over and over again. So was he supposed to send the stuff back for who knows how long, with a slight chance of getting them replaced. As stated in several other threads, JIC can't rebuild shocks

Exactly what I was thinking, screw paying to ship some asshat my parts when he says he MIGHT be able to fix it especially with aweful customer service.
I would have done the same **** by the time all the freight was payed for back and forth to japan like 6 months and 500$ later you MIGHT get a good set...

then again they may break in a year and you have to do it all over again

Yeah I heard the horrible story about the Customer Service Representative's professionalism at the S2K board.

Almost considered the JIC FLT-A2s

Can someone shed more light on JIC, or perhaps give the thread a link to their website or something.

well, at least he offered to take your shocks and rebuild... the only problem was downtime. didn't you have stock parts lying around to swap in?
