I searched through the archives and , while I found posts where people asked this same question, I didn't find posts with any relevant replies. Plenty of posts for VTEC engines, though. So anyway...

Does anyone have any information on how to locate and remove / install the PCV valve on the 96-00 D16Y7 engines?

I'd appreciate any serious and knowledgeable help.

Under the intake manifold.

 

there will be a black breather box on the back of the block. there is a hose running from the black box to the IM. the PCV will be inline.

Will the oil filter have to be removed in order to get to it?

 

no. i was telling you this so you knew what hose to locate in your quest to find the PCV.

 

And it is the same exact process as replacing it for a SOHC vtec engine BTW

 

Do it when you change your oil and have the filter off.....much easier to see what your doing. Clean the rubber bushing where the PCV fits into the box first then pull the old one out.

Update......I went and got the oil changed at the Honda dealer and they "un" and "re" installed the PCV valve for free. The tech showed me where it was and you guys were right. There was no way I could have done the job from the top or from the bottom with the oil filter installed. Had I changed my own oil, I could have done the PCV valve job my self.

If it's under the intake manifold on a y7 then it certainly isn't the same for all SOHC vtec engines as on the z6 it's mounted into the intake manifold and EASILY accesable from the top of the engine w/o removing anything.

I think the point is if you don't know where it is it's a bitch to find because it's completely out of view, under the manifold and behind the oil filter. You cannot see it looking down into the engine compartment or looking up from under the car.

The z6 is on top and easily accesable from the top... the y is undernieth and requies going at it from the bottom and removing the oil filter...

I'd say that's a pretty freaking big difference.

The point is that I actually help spread useful info here and NOT him...

If someone with a z6 read this thread and I hadn't posted they would have gotten under the car and pulled the freaking oil filter just to find out that the pcv valve is NOT there...

No it's not... unless he's vaguely refering to following the hose from the intake manifold.... In which it's still not... as different models have different number of hoses coming off the intake manifold going to different places... not JUST the PCV valve.

So basically.

You are like a week late here pal. If you read the first portion of this post, the poster says he wants to know how to change the PCV on a non-vtec engine,since most DIY's are showing vtec engines. Maybe you need to re-read this part.
