Default quick release steering hub?

I notice a lot of companies making the quick release steering wheel hub assemblys now. So I guess the question is, whitch ones are preferred by the road racer? Also are there certian ones that are, and are not legal for track use? What companies do you guys suggest? I'm not looking for flashy or popular, I just want the one that works the best.

Thanks, Collins.

The best is SPA Involute.

No slop and it always attaches in the correct orientation because there is a skipped spline. It is widely used by top level professional teams.

The rest you will now hear about are much cheaper, in cost and performance.

Thanks Rick.

Where do you suggest I find one of these?

Quickly off the top of my head, you should be able to find them at
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/
http://essexparts.com/
And you can probably find a bucnh of other outlets via a google search. They'll cost around $200. The splined slug will have to be welded onto the end of the steering column. You will probably want to remove the steering column shaft and have this professionally done to assure a good weld and that the slug is straight in line with the rest of the column.

I used LTB's bolt-on spline-type last year and, even though it does have perceptable play in it when you're sitting in the pits, you never notice it on the track. About half the price of Rick's really cool one.

I brain-farted and wrote "hex-type" in my post above, when I actually had the splined one.

me too. im starting to feel some slight play in mine, but i use it daily. i noticed if i put it on in a differant posititon, its nice and tight. so if it gets bad/annoying, ill turn the steering wheel end of the steering wheel side of the QR.

-ps-the sparco QR is also very nice and has one fat spline so it only goes on one way. no play in that one even after using i daily for a couple months.

How long have you been using yours? Mine is only used once a month (less than that in recent monghs ) and I have had it for about a year. I'm hoping it will last another year before I feel any slop. At that price, I can afford to replace them every few years.

The Kartech one is on the bottom of this page http://www.kartek.com/products...o.htm

I still feel the Sparco quick release is by far the best if you want to pay for it http://www.sparcousa.com/psteering_acc.asp?id=404

i have this one in my civic..
http://racingdimension.com/ind...D=196

i had it for several months now.. i take it off everyday when i get home. very solid piece.. and like someone mentioned, it has a 6/4 bearing configuration so it pops on only one way..

my friend has the sparco one.. i actually like mine better.. his actually has some play to it..

I bought the one from http://www.smartracing.com, then I found LTB sells one that looks just like it for less. I have a LTB one coming in the mail to compare to the Smart Racing one.

I really like these spline QRs and they have almost no rotational play after years of use, however there is a very very small amount of play in the steering wheel when pushing forward on one side and pulling back on the other (like you ever do that when driving).
