New Tires For STS?
With the new season only a couple months away. I was curious what tires the STS people will be looking into? I noticed a some tires I hadn't seen before like the Yoko A043. It looks like it may be a decent tire. But until I can check out the specs on the new Azenis, I won't make a decision?
By the way I drive a 90 SI (RED) in STS (currently on Falkens). I wanted to try the Kumho MX or the Yokos. Hmmmm?
I hope I posted this to the right forum.

dream? how would you know if it is a dream? if you would come down to the states for some real competition instead of messing around in those *** backword classes you have up there, maybe you will get to see my 800 hp in action

No more *** backwards classes for me ( I agree with you that they were). Its full on Street Mod (following SCCA rules now) for me (and alot of other people in Canada now).
:grrrr: get it right! it's 90whp!!!!
i'll be on kumho's again next year. i might experiment with some other tires if some results warrant taking a look at them. i like the low rotating mass and heat stability of the kumho's. i can't say much about the contigency program though. i don't win.

Really? So you folks out west going to SM rules too. Here in Quebec we are changing our Prepared class and going with full SCCA SM classes in 2005. Our old Prepared was already very similar to SM but allowed some major weight reductions. We are creating an SM3 class for some of the stripped down cars to compete.
So for 2005 we will have full blown SCCA classes and rules for Stock, SP, ST and SM. Our mod basically has no rules other than some vehicle type and displacement limits to break-it down somewhat. Absolutely nobody in Mod here though since carts got banned by ASN...

Hehe... in due time my friend, in due time... You will see some serious SM Civics coming down from Canada. Eventually... Trust me... It may take us longer cuz we're just a little poorer up here but got too much time in the winter to think up and do crazy **** to our cars.

We'll be running full SCCA rules for 2005, with the exception of grandfathering the SP class from CACC (almost exactly the same rules as Canadian Nationals rules). There were a bunch of sissies in ESP (American Iron) that didn't want to play with Civics and BMWs in SM. They've got 2 years to come around, as Canadian SP will be gone in 2007.

I was mostly interested if anyone had tried out the Yoko A043. A couple years back I was running on the Yoko A520 and thought it was a pretty good tire. But that was back before I was serious and drove to events with an extra set of wheels wrapped in street rubber. I like the Azenis a lot, but it seems with the popularity of STS growing, more tire companies are coming out with tires that may be competitive.
Here is a link to the Yoko A043 at the TireRack. Check out the specs. Hope it works.

Had fun auto-xing today, still haven't had my wife ride shotgun with me yet. lol too scared of me shooting sideways at 55 mph and whipping it back around.
but anyways I'm in SM class and i use stock 14x5 si rims with 195/60 yokos street tires and i run with the best in SM class. i mean sliding and swinging the *** end out is fun, coming outta corners suck when you can't grip for ****. so since i'm broke i only order 2 Kosei TS-1s in orange and 2 Azenis for the front. 205/50/15
wide 15s in front 14s in back should be interesting for the event next weekend.

STS rules require that the tread wear be >= 140, So I am always looking for tires as close to 140 as possible (with good sidewalls, tread patterns). Falken Azenis is rated 200. The Yoko A043 is 160. Even though it is softer I am not sure if the strength of the sidewall is as good as the Azenis.... however the Kumho MX has a softer sidewall than the Azenis and is rated 220. Also the Kumho has been the winning tire for the last two years. Hmmmm

correction sm2 and plus it was real shitty rain and wet out today. standing water, so i had an advantage people said. but my sidewalls aren't stiff so you know what happens then.
