Default CRX Si starts then dies, I smell fuel, what's wrong?

When I was cleaning up recently, I noticed a subtle smell of fuel near the injectors recently on my 91 CRX Si. (stock mpfi d16a6)

Today, I've started to have some trouble starting the CRX... it starts normally then immediately dies. After a few tries at this, plus a pump on the throttle, it starts up. Now I'm noticing the fuel smell is getting stronger.

My first guess is to goa ahead and replace the fuel filter, then the FPR as well. I really hope its not the fuel pump.

If this sounds familiar to you, please share what you think it might be.

Check the seals around your injectors. Try spraying some starting fluid around them. If you get a surge at idle, then you know you have a leak. Good luck.

Trace the path of hoses from your fuel filter (a black cylidrical thing on the firewall) towards your injectors. The FPR should be a small thing right there on the end of the fuel pipe.

Next to the iat sensor

You need to figure out what actually needs to be replaced before you go swapping parts. Why get a new fpr and still smell gas after it's installed? If you had a fuel pressure gage you could do some troubleshooting and prove that those parts needed to be replaced.

Try new o-rings (manifold to injector/rail to injector/fpr to rail) since you say its coming from the injector area.

I'm going to start with the o-rings. Thanks for the quick replies!

remove spark plug and check to see if their fouled out meaning are they black and riek of fuel. Second check the injector seals that are in the intake manifold, start by having a friend turn the ignition switch on to allow the fuel pump build pressure. It would be handie if you have a pressure gauge laying around or a b&m gauge on your fuel filter. Also check to see the color of the spark it should be a bright blue if it's red there may be a problem with the ignition side ..... good luck

I've replaced the the o-rings the cushion rings and seal rings.

The o-rings were $5, and the cushion and seal rings were an extra $50 but I figured while I was in there I might as well do everything I can.

Sure enough, when I had everything apart the o-rings crumbled apart while I was removing them from the injectors. The other seals were looking kinda dry and atrophied, so I was glad I sprung for the extra.

I took off the fuel pipe and cleaned it as much as possible inside and out, and I also replaced the fuel filter.

The first start was a bit rough (no fuel in the system) but the next two seem to be working just fine. The car seems to be running and idling smoother, too.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
