Default SC61 owners.. do you suffer tEh lag??

Well I've come to the conclusion, it's not inmy head.. this thing is sooper laggy

The setup is:

81.5mm GSR (stock head/cams/Victor X IM)
9.0:1 CR
SC61
2.5 --> 3" flared DP, 3" back
2.25" charge piping + small Spearco FMIC

Does anybody esle with a similar setup (especially running an SC61) feel like the turbo is very laggy? I mean I can understand some lag, hell it is a stg V hot wheel, but what I'm experiecing is a dead fish untill 5500rpm, and it really doesn't pull strong till ~6500rpm after which it'll pull rock solid through 8500+. THe odd thing is, I tuned a built 81mm GSR with an SC61 and a far smaller exahust (Skank2 IM though) and the car just felt far more responsive under 6000rpm vs. my car, so I was curious to see if anybody esle's B18 responds the same to the SC61.

FWIW, I've checked and I have no boost leaks, and I'm running an AVC-R

Do you have the off the shelf sc61 , if so i've done some research and people with b18b or b18c's are starting to boost around 4000rpm and full boost by 4500rpm. I recently purchased the off the shelf turbo and I spoke to the tech @ PT and they told me boost would start around 3600rpm and full boost by 4400rpm due to dispacliment(sp).

Yea I mean it's pretty much off the shelf, nothing special here. I get boost a little before 4k, but it won't see full boost till well after 5000 in 3rd (I'll have to hit the street during lunch to re-verify exact rpm), but even after VTEC at 5500 it's just a dead fish till 6k+ when it finally wakes up. The funny thing is, and M.A.R.C. can attest to this, the car is "Supra-esque" in the boost delivery. It's just a flat boring ride, then you hear a very audible sucking sound and *BAM*, like Viren said it's an on-off switch and you're pinned to the seat lol.. like I said, "Surpa-esque", minus 5-700whp

Ehh.. trying to keep it as close to stock till I get it on a dyno and can see what's really going on.

yah... my panties are still hanging up to dry from that run lol
but yah... it seems laggy... seems just as bad as charles' car and he has a a straight 2.5" dp, and teeny *** exhaust. oh wait... i just thought about it... were u reffering to charles car as the other gsr u tuned with the skank2 manifold? if u were then... really his isn't much better than urs.

humm, it sounds like you might just have an exhaust leak. It shouldn't be that laggy.

I just twiddled with it durning lunch, full boost (10psi) came on by 5500rpm, I tried upping the solenoid duty in the lower revs to see if it would help but it only led to overboosting.. I'm a little suspicious that I'm just running far too little timing on the low cam so I'm gonna tinker with it tonight and see if I can't wake it up some

Its that huge *** intake mani. A good friend of mine was running the victor x and it was super laggy on his b16, switched to a skunk2im and it hit full boost 12-1500 rpm sooner. It felt exactly like you are describing until he switched intake mani's.

The bigger question is which version of the SC61 do you have? We make three different variations of this with different turbine wheels based on the displacement of the engine it's going on. The biggest one, which is rated at 680-hp with the P-trim wheel, is actually intended for something 3.0L and bigger, such as a Supra. The other two versions are for engines ranging from 2.o to 3.0 litre and then 2.0 litre and under.

It's the Stg. V/T350 wheel (76 trim, .63 A/R). I belive it's the smallest SC61 backside you guys make no?

That's essentially correct. The smallest SC61 we make is the 6152E with the 52mm T350 76 trim exhaust wheel. In Turbonetics slang, that is a Stage V.

I had an SC61 on an 81MM GSR, I got 18 pounds of boost by about 4800 with a VictorX IM. Look for an exhaust leak, and tuning.

Did you try tuning off the AVCR and running off of the WG spring? On my car the ramping effect (or whatever it is called) is turned on on my AVCR, it makes the boost come on a lot smoother hence taking more time to reach the peak boost. We did this to prevent blowing the tires off on the dyno. If you look at the dyno datalogs you can see the boost line rise sharply and then slowly decline in degree at is reaches full boost. If the AVCR is off it boosts right up to the spring with no degree decline in the boost line. I hope all that makes sense.....

Nope, no leaks. I had one yes, replaced the blown T3 gasket and put everything back on, no leaks to date. I'm definatley gonna screw with the timing some. I really need to get this thing on a dyno.

As for the AVC-R, it's only a .25bar(4psi) spring and I'm getting a feeling it's cracking open way before I hit full boost, probably just too damn weak. I've got a 9psi spring comming in the mail that i'll try out!
