Default smoke coming from valve cover... please help :(

hello, while i was driving home, boosting a lil here and there. I noticed when i got home the car's idle was pretty bad, like hesitating when letting it idle. The white smoke is coming from inside the valve cover, i can see it coming out of the breather hose pretty bad.

I have a '96 integra LS Turbo. It was an auto to manual swap, so im still running the auto ecu, so it has that CEL come on and its flashing, the code i pulled was 70, but i think thats because of the auto ecu.

please help...

edit: FOUND THE PROBLEM, PICTURES ON PAGE 3.

well, if im not mistaken, white smoke= coolant burning... did u check the valve cover gasket and look for any leaks?

the smoke is only coming out from the breather, so i dont think the valve cover gasket is the problem. Oh and oil had been spit out also.

I just got home like 30mins ago when this happened.

I had a similar situation and it was the ringlands. Check compression, or do a leak down test. Are you losing any water, pull the dipstick, whats it look like?

edit-you beat me to it

yeah hopefully i can get a compression check soon.

i havent pulled the dipstick yet.

as for coolant levels, its at its normal point, oil is low, but I've been low for a few days. I'll start the car up in a bit to see what happens.

btw, i appreciate all of your help

When I said dipstick i meant, just look at the condition of the oil to see if the water was mixing with the oil. Which it sounds like you did.

if you cant read oil on the dipstick, you can pop the valvecover real quick and see if there is any coolant in your oil that way. if so, it will look milky, kinda like a cup of coffee with a little milk in it. wish u the best with it

take off your oil cap if thes a milkie substance on it than you probly have a blown head gasket. why dont you just change you oil and take a look at the oil. if your running a turbo car.. its not very smart to let your oil get low... oil is what keeps your turbo alive... if your burning lots of oil and you dont have any majo leaks...then your turbo is probly shot

yeah i think this comes down to basic car maintance.... especially if u r turboed, u need to keep a look on the vitals of yer car, especially the damn oil...lol... i think u might just be sucking in some coolant then.... but come on man, u spent the money on the setup, keel it alive!

alright i put in 2 quarts of oil today, its about almost full. The smoke has gone down a lot, but still enough to see while the hood is open. I let the car idle for about 10mins, coolant seems to be good, doesnt look mixed or anything, i guess tomorrow when i have the time I'll take off the valve cover see whats up.

i dont have time to read all the replies, most likely its your rings. The White smoke is oil vapors, most like caused by poor rings/sealing. Im sure if you do a leak down test, itll be really high, like 25% or even more leak down results. You most likely are getting a lot of lost compression making blow by. i have a boosted lsvtec with 30-35% leakdown (terrible) and lost oil kinda bad, the block is just beat to death, lol, but its 403whp daily car and its still doing fine

sorry but he is more than likely right.

Same thing happend to me. Try to check the compression and after you do the initial test on all 4 cyclinders dont forget to add oil and do the test again.

Let us know
