Default Team Honda Research at 25 Hours of Thunderhill

Team Honda Research will competing in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill with a Acura TL. The TL was designed and developed at Honda R&D Americas in Ohio (www.hondaresearch.com), so we were very excited to have the chance to work on this project and to help demonstrate the performance potential of the TL.

What you see is the hard work of about 20 engineers and technicians, who have been working on their own time for more hours than I can count to help make this dream a reality. This project would not have been possible without the help of our partners on this project:
H&R - custom dampers & springs
Toyo Tires - Toyo RA-1 race tires
NRC Aerospace - wind tunnel testing (http://iar-ira.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/aero_3.html)
Prototype Racing - custom header & a-pipe (deletes all 3 cats)
Roush Logistical Services - event transportation & support
Acura A-Spec - ground effects
Keihin - technical support
Comptech - lightweight flywheel (from CL-S), street cat back exhaust
Brembo - technical support
SPC - adjustable camber ball joints & links
Progress Technology - custom adjustable rear sway bar
Goodridge - SS brake lines

See you at the 25!

Have a good run in CA, Jeremy!

Those of you who haven't heard this thing on the track are missing out. It is without a doubt the sexiest sounding car out there. Race cars to NOT have to be loud.

It's also going to be easier for lame-o backmarkers to see in the dark, now that the nose isn't dark blue.

Kirk, We've also got some Hella rally HID's that bolt onto the hood for night this time. Car was just too fast for it's headlights at VIR.

This car sounds a little different due to the Comptech, maybe a little raspier due the what they use for resonator packing; plus it's got a real header from Joe (Prototype Racing). Mule car had straight pipes back from stock resonator, with stock cats in place but gutted. Both are pretty sweet.

Also this car was built up from the ground up, where the mule car was just a decontented street car. Before someone goes off to try that at home, it takes a lot longer than you think! Everything was done by us except for the cage which was done by Mark McMahan (http://www.rollcageguy.com/). The cage is pretty unbelievable in how well it matches the a-pillar and door arch; so tight I had trouble getting zip-ties around the roll bar padding!

I'll try to answer any questions but I fly to Cali tomorrow and won't be back till Monday night.

if you can, tell us more about the windtunnel testing!! What did you find? Were the results what you expected or did you make a lot of changes to what you went in with?

Wow, that thing has at least 7.3 times more :bling: factor than it did at Mid-Ohio. Very cool, and like Kirk said, it has an awesome sound.

Great car, I wish I could be up there this weekend. What's the weight of the car in race trim? Can you share the WHP, spring rates, etc. too?

8000 street miles plus at least 28 hours of racing with only stock Honda MTF is what happened. Syncro broke sending bits of syncro into various gears. New tranny & Redline for 25 hour, plus no clutch dumps exiting the pit.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by stevel &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> if you can, tell us more about the windtunnel testing!! What did you find?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Better understanding of the effect of the wing and that the A-spec ground effects really do work! Also played with adding a front splitter (on at MidOhio) which produced significant front downforce and increased cooling (bottom breather engine) due to extra air being diverted through radiator. Front splitter is not curb or off course friendly so that's why it's not on for the 25.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Vitt1 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">What's the weight of the car in race trim? Can you share the WHP, spring rates, etc. too?</TD></TR></TABLE>
We got it down to just under 2800 lbs without driver. Never been on a chassis dyno. Can't remember the exact spring rates but they are in the neighborhood of 650f/1200r, 26mm Progress rear bar.

I'm sure there will be more photos and hopefully some video.

Going to be cold in Cali.
