So you THINK the spacing is 1.75 MM AND you don't know what to do, BUT, you're calling the people at Napa idiots?

Well, if you have a 12x1.75 tap, have you tried it to see if indeed it is correct.

Ok let's get something straight here. Here is how you interpret threads.

12 = major diameter
1.75 = threads per centimeter

Now, there is no such thing as a 12 mm fine and coarse thread. 1.75 is all you get. So if indeed it is a 12 mm diameter stud, then that's what it is.

It is possible also that Honda made a special thread for this. E.g. turning a 1.75 thread on a 11 mm bolt lets say. And that, well, you won't find a tap like that out there.

Can't help you more on that.

try feeding that tap into an open hole. See if it goes in. If it doesn't go in then you know it's wrong. If it is wrong, your not applying enough forse to damage anything so don't worry. If it does, then you know you have the right one.

Don't pay atention to the coarse or fine callout. Look at the numbers. Maybe the 1.75 thread pitch is a coarse thread in that size.

thats correct. I just looked and couldn't find anything other than 1.75 thread pitch in a 12mm size.

the 12x1.75 i have is way to coarse....The threads in the hole are FINE....They are damn fine. So i don't know exactly what im looking for...the 12mm i have is to big, people i have heard have done this before so there has to be a tap somewhere!

then maybe 12mm is the wrong size?

Do you have a set of micrometers, calipers or even a good scale? Measure the diameter of the thread.

Well, try to measure the hole size either using a caliper, a micrometer or even a ruler.. THat will give you an indication.

I stand corrected, sorry. I just looked through a couple other books here at work and found 1.00, 1.25, 1.50 and 1.75 all in 12mm.. Yep, I said I found a 12x1.00. Here's the specs.

High Speed Steel Metric Hand Tap
M12X1.00
4 Flutes
1 21/32" Thread Length
3 3/8" OAL
Ti-Coated #EP51-40121TN
Price: $10.90

That is from a Production Tool Supply catalog. The 2005 catalog on page M-272 to be exact. Over here we have a few local. They do sell to the public so you don't need a business account with them. Go to http://www.ptsxpress.com thats the website listed on the back of the catalog or call 1-800-366-3600. You can probably just order on their website and have it shipped, call and have it shipped or see if they list any locations near you.

Another company that also has it is called J&L Industrial Supply. Here's the specs.

High Speed Steel Metric Hand Tap
M12x1.00
4 Flutes
Part #MET-12581C
Price: $7.21

This is from their Volume 74 catalog page 167L. Their website is http://www.jlindustrial.com and their phone number is 1-800-521-9520.

Now I only gave you two part numbers but I'm sure if you call them or go on their site you'll find more. But they both carry the tap your looking for and they are both good companies, we deal with both on a regular basis here at work. I hope this helps you out. Good Luck

cool, glad I could help.

I was going to say if you couldn't order it from them or from any place around you I would just go and buy it, send it to you and you could just pay me. We have like 2 or 3 locations of each company local by me so it would have been easy for me to help you out. But good to hear you got it ordered by phone.

Which one did you end up going with?

just usless info.. but honda tranny bolts are 17MM X 1.25.

i know.. ive stripped them out, and replaced them with "Time Serts"

not only do i have 17M x 1.25 taps, i have full sided sleaves for really fucked threads.

1st you use the drill bit to drill out the jacked threads..

then you just above it, you use the 12X1.25 tap to start your threads for your sleave.

then you use the ream tool at the top that allows the sleave to sit inside the hole.

and then the insert tool in the 2nd slot.

this work very well.. i approve more than "heli-coils".

i got them from the snap-on man.. and funny thing was, he stocked them... i guess they were the same size as Mercedes head bolts...? go figure.
