REF'd B17A1...Can i be a member of the BAR club? lol
I went in today to get my Refereed at the Rio Hondo College. Prior to this test i ran a full tank down with a bottle of some fuel system cleaner from GM, aka top engine cleaner/decarbonizer. I then refilled and went to a local smog shop where they tested it on the dyno so i could get an idea of what the results would be. They were perfect. My cat was somewhat new with very low mileage. Plugs, cap, rotor, PCV, and O2 had about 10-15K miles on them and they were OEM parts.
The actual test results are as follows:

Timing on the sheet says 16 degrees.
I watched the entire testing process. I'd say it took about 45 minutes. They do check all 3 VIN numbers to see if they match. They also looked at my DC header and confirmed it was OK. I am using a conversion harness i got from some guy up in Oregon a few years ago. It uses OEM connectors with OEM wire. No comments were made. Not a word was asked or said about my oil cooler or my JDM EF9 air box and tube. BTW, it has a K&N drop in.
On a side note, there were a few things that kind of cracked me up. First off, before the guys (there were 2 of them) even looked over my car, the boss guy asked me a few questions about GSR and ITR differences. This caught me off gaurd. He wanted to know what head stampings each one came with and so forth. Secondly, when the assistant was checking timing, he said it was about 17-18 degrees and the boss replied, "We'll just call it 16." Thirdly, after my sticker was all done printing, the assistant was telling me how he was talking with the boss about fixing up his EG. He was saying he was gonna do a mini-me with a mitsubishi turbo, intercooler, etc. I thought it was hilarious that the top dogs at the BAR/REF station would be committing such an illegal swap. He said it wasnt done yet, but that he had all the parts ready to go.
The boss also asked if he could take a few pics of the swap. I can assume he'll use them for future reference.
The sticker was placed on my pass. side door jamb, because the assistant said there was not enough room on the drvr side, ah whatever. It states 1992 Acura 1.7L. I dont remember it even saying B17A1...I will have to check again. The DC header is not on the sticker

EDIT: I dont want to have to go somewhere, and find out at that time whether or not they know what they are doing. It would be a lot easier for me to decide which smog tech to go to based on other people's experiences.

just because they are gay well most of them but I would love to have their job I will pass all imports and fail amercian cars...
nahh jk. last time I went to ref was they were saying to go buy a 700 dollar cat the refs was scard they thought we were about to assualt them. the dude who was talking **** the ref came around saying ya ya trying to be a friend then the manager came said all you need to do is proof thats a obd2 cat.. I just find it funny..

Well, the correct spelling is "scared". Also assault is spelled wrong.
Do you really think that the Referee was scared? They have all the information on your car that the police would need to find you and throw you in jail if you did anything!
Getting a car through the Referee process isn't all that hard and not really confrontational if handled professionally.

first of all the refs tell you different things. One ref "your tranny looks ok" other ref "you need a del sol tranny" "I don't see anything wrong with your tranny"..
second of all I went with the right equipment they tell you its wrong that's what gets me mad. This is where you need to bash them. Few days ago I sold a ecu to someone he said they wanna see a P30 ecu when they were telling me my P30 usdm ecu was wrong I need a P28. You might think its easy for some refs but the refs don't know wtf they doing.
You can just tell like the OP said..Casting on the Head ... If its on the book and its wrong they will try to throw the book at you.

Yea no ref I will try with a K Series Soon. I sold my car few weeks ago with a smog sticker.
These Fucktrads know I have one more try left because it was their error. Told me I failed because I had wrong ecu but I did have the rite ecu.
