Default Integra 1999 GSR not passing smog at REF

Hey guys,

Ive searched the forums for a while but I cant find anythign so im jsut ganan post my own thread. Here it goes. I got turboed about begining of this year and I then got a referee ticket about 1 month ago. I then took my car to AutoWave in huntington beach and there pretty awsome there. THey put my car back to stock its exactly stock. I get my car pre smogged and it passes. I goto the referee and I get 160 HydroCarbons max is 61 which is messed up anyways pretty pissed. I bring it back to autowave they put a new O2 sensor in cause it was probably bad. Got my car smogged and it barely passes. I go home and do a seafoam my car cause my turbo probably got my car all dirty. ANyways i run that through my system and i drive it for about 70 miles. I got new spark plugs to. I go back to a smog place arround here and I asked him to do one for free cause I already payed one time. He hooks it up really quick to see what its putting out on idle. Its like 300 at idle. Gahh pissing me off. He told me to run down the freeway and fill up my tank and come back. So I come back after going a little on the freeway then filling up my tank. Gas the **** out of it redlining it all the way back. Get back we throw it on. 15 MPH test it passes but it is 61/61 I pass by nothing the wind can change that. I jsut bought a new air filter hopefully that will help.

Does anyone have any ideas? My car smells bad and smokes at idle and puts out alot of fumes even tho its stock new o2 new sparks new air filter....

thank you in advance

I don't understand, your car passed just fine pre turbo, then after they took the turbo off it won't pass?

Was your ecu flashed? (chipped)
How many miles are currently on your car?
Were you running really lean while boosted? (you may have inturnal damage)

I can't think of any other reason, but it sounds like if the motor wasn't damaged that it's an ECU problem.. see if someone has a wideband and see if it it's running too lean/rich. Then post the results.. Someone on here can help you..

BTY: IMO California sux, in wisconsin I don't even have to take my car into emissions tests at all.. I have no cat.

Stock air filter right? With new air filter on it?

How is the cat? Stock I assume? But how old?

HydroCarbons mean unburned fuel that seeped past through the combustion chamber and out to your exhaust.

if it's all back to normal, and you don't have any timing issues, I would sug. putting a wideband on it and see how it's running (lean rich) also, have you changed the plugs? that's odd because a 99 GSR should pass with no problems. unless somethings is wrong.

your shop should have one, if they do a lot of tuning, it's basically just an o2 sensor that goes to a gauge... check around, because they have to know how to use it properly to help you any, but once it's hooked up you can see if your cars running lean... dude, try to reset your computer. I'm thinking since you had the turbo on, you were pushing more air, thus the need for more fuel wa s"learned" by the ecu and it hasen't had a chance to re-adjust back to normal.... I could be wrong.. anyone else think so?

When you use seafoam, you are not suposed to drive the car. You are suposed to put in in th crankcase and then rev for a while, no load. then change oil, plugs, o2 sensor and anything else you want. if its in your gas tank, you will fail also.

You check for any exhaust leaks before the o2 sensors. Any fresh air to the sensors will tell the ecu to dump more fuel. If the ignitor unit in the distributor is old or burning out, the combustion won't be as clean. You should try another distributor. Good luck.

Are you an idiot? Or you wish you just really knew what you were talking about?

His timing is set stock at 16BTC.

I failed smog before UltraRoms, but I managed to pass after the 2nd try and legally...you might want to read up on my thread:
