Atmel AT29c256 discontinued ?!?!
Digikey set me an email today, saying that the Atmel AT29c256 was being discontinued in 70 & 90 speeds. They have been discontinued as of Nov. 4, 2004.
I've been in contact with digikey and they have said that they were not aware of any replacements.
this kind of scares me, i mean all of hondata is based on these chips, as is uberdata and any general 'chip' for obd1 ecus.
anyone else have any inputs on this, digikey still has some of the AT29c256-70 speeds, which i have used and had them work fine. But looks like i may make another order.

There are plenty of other replacements, and Atmel isn't the only maker of 29C. Digikey isn';t even one of the places that gets tossed about in the "where to buy chips?" threads that pop up every so often - they are a bit pricey. I only use them when I'm getting a bunch of other stuff for convenience.
hell i didn't think the 5.7/chip was bad. Plus its one of the few places you can buy the 29c chip and the low profile zif switches. But i thought atmel was the major 29c producer.
AMD might have one. Ill email them to find out. I know they've got them but I dont know if they have any 29c equivalents.
BTW: If worst comest to worst, we could always just go with romulators
EDIT: Just sent an email. Ill let you guys know what they say.

Yes you can rewrite it. I think a local computer nerd store carries these for me.
