home made 2 step
ok what do u guys think ill get an msd rpm switch and wire it into the ground wire for the
coil and use 3.0-5.2 rpm module selector and have that switched via a relay and the clutch microswitch to power the relay???

I never really thought about it but I don't think that it would work due to the fact that when you cut the power (whatever you're breaking, whether it be the + or -) to the dizzy you lose your ICM signal which the rpm activated switch needs to see in order to function. If you really want a 2-step just get a Digi6 box...
Yea but if you're buying a 2-step module that means that you're not running an ignition box with a built in 2-step (ie. Digi 6 or 7) so besides that module you'll need say a 6AL or HVC box, coil, and a soft-touch module. If he's already got one of those MSD boxes and a soft-touch module then you're absolutely correct.

Yea, well I think he's talking just from an rpm limiting point, I hope he wasn't planning on using this type of 2-step on an FI motor or any fairly expensive setup. As for what I think he was also think, if the ICM signal did not rely on power from the dizzy his "rpm limiter" would work. Think about it, if you have an rpm activated switch that goes to ground a say 5,000 rpm then all you do is connect that to the 85 pole on the relay, run the 86 and 87 (these would have to supply a decent load since one is also driving the coils power) to 12V+, then connect the 87a to the main power line in on the dizzy. Once the motor hits 5k it switches the relay to 30 which cuts the coil power turning off the motor, when it drops below 5k power is resupplied. This would work, right? Yes, but only if the ICM signal remained there for the rpm activated switch to read off of. When the dizzy power is cut so is the RAS signal which would be as good as the switch not even having power itself...
I'm not positive since I don't see too many 6A boxes but I'm pretty sure you can't. I don't think it has a port for the soft-touch module but I could be wrong and please correct me if I am.
i think the difference betweend the msd 6a and the 6al boxes is that on the 6al you can add the 2step while on the 6a you cant.... pretty sure about that.
If you decide not to go with the 2 step I am selling a used MSD Digital 6 plus box. It is in great condition. Used only for a few months on our drag car. Recently went COP so I have no use for it. Selling for $210 shipped. There is a pic of it at http://s8.invisionfree.com/MS1...x.php? in the for sale forum. Registering is free and takes a minute. Thanks.

what he said... iv tried before...
and with the 6a u CANT run the 2 step...
on the 6al... iv always thought the "L" meant limiter... hence u can plug the 2 step "limiter" into it...
