Default Ep3 Si, broken again, warranty, dependability, aggrivated bitch thread

I hear that the latest Civics, RSX's (I saw the Lemon thread) and other models are not as dependable but there is little to no specific evidence on H-T backing this up for the Ep3. What kind of issues are Ep3 owners having with their cars? Are they as dependable as other Hondas? Do you wish something was different? When the chassis and motor are completely redesigned issues pop up and this is the thread to bitch about it or tell your story. If it is a great car and all is well then post about that. I'm shopping, and I'm sure that there are stories. Feel free to post links to other threads or sites, I did not find much.

don't forget the spring extension noise that has to deal with the master cylinder that many are having.

Just checking in as someone with 0 problems in an EP to date.
Driven hard: Yes
Well maintained: Absolutely
Stock: Nope.

p.s. Driven hard does not mean launching the car, drag strips etc. Rev matching and not skipping gears unless you double clutch will go a long way towards a healthy tranny.

(edit): MY04 if that has anything to do with it. I didn't want the first few years and let Honda sort out any minor problems that others may have.

Same here. Getting close to 50,000 miles on my EP3 w/no issues at all.

I am not sure what people are talking about w/suspension "problems"...the OEM suspension doesn't have any problems other than the fact that it's a front driver w/McPherson struts, and we could argue all day long whether or not the chassis stiffness and extra space inherent in the design compensate for the possible bump steer in racing situations.

i've had a few problems, but far less than other makes and models i've discussed with friends and colleagues.

as far as that lemon list is concerned, you have to consider who is puchasing those cars, how many of those models are produced, and how they are marketed. quite simply, people are idiots and darwinism isn't working effectively. some of those cars are marketed as sports cars and people drive them that way. they're going to break.

as for the typical problems with the civic and the rsx...the major problems can usually be traced back to the owner by either modifications or by action(s).

i have 36000 on my '03, my typical issues have all been fixed under warranty. the items that weren't i attribute to my own fault.

i also agree with george about the suspension.

Thanks, are there any more Ep3 owners here. So far this thread is not talking me out of buying one.

I haven't had any REAL problems with my EP3 aside from not putting me back in my seat hard enough . But seriously the only thing i didn't like was a little trouble shifting into 2nd, i get a slight grind... now i don't know if this was caused by me driving fairly hard at times (i treat my car like a dog sometimes) but it's there only when shifting in high rpms. Since no one else has had this problem it's starting to seem that i did this. Other than that it's suited me nicely

There was this one day that all my gears seemed to disappear. None of them would engage with the clutch ALL THE WAY IN. They came back a minute later as i coasted to the side of the road. Has anyone had this problem?

***This was not a post-jacking i just never heard about anyone else with the same problem ***

it helps prevent the grinding in second many k trannies are having. which is caused by the stock(rubber) clutch line expanding when you push the clutch pedal down quick keeping the clutch engaged as you shift gears.

BTW 2002 ep with 20k and no problems besides the chrome on the handbrake chipping but was fixed under warranty.
most of the people that say they have problems with car on forums are usually just a small percentage of the owners, but it's good to see what to look for and what to try and prevent as your car gets older.

Only 14k on my '02 and I only have the cracking window seal problem. A lot of people bitch about the creaking steering after lowering but I believe most of them are due to improper strut indexing during reinstallation. I did the same thing when I first installed my springs but I reinstalled them and it hasn't made a creak since. I almost forgot about the interior "rattle" that some have including me. On colder days I get an annoying ticking noise that sounds like something sticking and unsticking when I hit a small bump. It sounds like its coming from around the driver side tweeter or left vent area but it is quit dangerous to search for the noise while driving.

just hit 5K on my 04, only problem is the window chanelling is a poor fit resulting in wind noise, the dealer is gonna fix under warranty though

love the car though, none of the other issues that others have, too slow, yea, for now

Im at 18k miles on my 02 and I recently started hearing some weird squeeking noises when I turn the steering wheel sometimes. I am going to take it in, I just hope I wont have to pay out the *** to have it fixed.

chipping e-brake button
e-brake tends to be too loose
squeeky clutch pedal
occasional grind at high revs

but I love the car, it's fun for a daily driver. My only complaints from stock were the stock suspension and brakes. But that has been taken care of!

Just so everybody knows, Victor drives like the lunatic he is.

Oh, yeah. He's losing his hair, too.

The RSX and EP sometimes develop nasty dash rattles too, or at least all the ones I've driven have . I still love em.

22k+ miles here on an 03 Si, no problems. And I'm pretty hard on the car.

Another friend has 80k+ miles on his, no problems either (I don't think he's even changed the brake/tranny fluid).

i have an 03 with 24K miles. i have had some problems and i don't drive the car hard at all. window regulator broke, lots of rattles, panels breaking/coming loose, and after lowering it on tein basics i have many weird noises sometimes in the suspension. it is fun to drive but if i had it to do over again i would have left it stock b/c it was so much nicer to drive stock as a daily driver. i just don't find this motor to be that great w/o boost which is not in the budget.

I have on o2 TypeS and have had the tranny re-worked once for the grind, have terrible squeeks in the dash (especially when cold) and my right front suspension is making an ever-worsening groaning noise (it is almost starting to sound like the strut is blown, but it still seems to dampen OK.).

This is all on a car that has 67k KM and 40k of which are pure highway. I am truely disappointed in the car, even after owning a Sunfire GT previous to this car!

With 18xxx on my 02, I just had my window molding replaced and my clutch master cylinder has been ordered for my squeaky clutch pedal. All under warranty. My gears don't grind unless I mess up a shift which rarely happens (I'm kind to my car), but the tranny is sometimes hard to get in gear, especially when it's cold. Maybe the previous owner learned stick on my car. I will be looking into the braided clutch line. Other than that, the E-brake cable stretches way too often. I love the car though! Tons of fun to drive.

33,000 on my '03, plus 5 autox and one track day...so far, so good. Getting a few mystery squeaks and rattles, but no worries. I had a small issue with my gas door, but that was easily solved. All in all, I love my Si.
