I cant shift into gear.Teach me.
Im using an si transmission and i cant seem to get my car out of neutral when i start it, but when it is off i can change the gears smoothly.I tried adjusting the cable but that didnt really work(twisted the adjuster all the way right untill my fingers were hurting, then switched hands and did it agian) . my clutch feels really nice but it still wont let me shift into any other gears, chould it just be because my clutch cable is bad? Thanks Eric
tried that, still cant shift, i tought the tighter iut was, the better the chance to shift cause when you think about it , it sounds resonable.
I honestly have no idea WTF you are talking about. But i DO know a few things about clutchs and cables. When you push the clutch pedal down, does the lever that the clutch cable connects to on the transmission, move up and down?? If not your cable either isnt installed correctly, or is broken. If its nothing with the cable then it must be something inside the transmission.
do you have a racing clutch? and did this start happening slowly?
happened to me one day. check out the clutch pedal and see if your pedal is straight...mine wasnt. it cracked because the raciing clutch was alot more stiffer than the stock and the pedal isnt made to withstand so much pressure..this happened to a few people i know..

this is an exedy oem replacement clutch year of model is 88 si and when i push the clutch cable down, the lever on the transmission moves up and down but i cant shift out of neutral when my car is running(while i push the clutch in), but i can shift around when its not running.(straight pedal)

Had the same problem as you did, last year. tranny was taken off and on the clutch where the springs are, one of the edges was bent, it also could be ur throw out bearing or something of that nature, either way it sounds like the tranny is going to have to be pulled
You need to untighten the clutch cable adjustment. When you tightnen it like that, you're putting constant pressure on the throwout bearing and it's not real happy. It's like resting your foot on the clutch pedal all the time. The cable should be adjusted so that you can pull the cable up about 1/4" in the bracket.
The trouble shifting could be the input shaft not being lubricated enough and things dragging, or the clutch itself may be damaged.

This is what I'm also thinking.. I heard someone else had this problem and this person found out that he put in the disk backwards or something..

ok so i remove the tranny , everything seems ok. i think i installed right.3 hours of tranny removal....., now another 3 to place it back in.should i check for anything before i put it back in?
a common mistake for many people to make is to tighten down the pressure plate in a circular motion. DO NOT DO THIS!! you must tighten the bolts in a star pattern or else it could warp your pressure plate causing premature/uneven wear. if you pull your clutch out and the disk is worn weird, the pressure plate has a blue haze on it, or everything is just all Fed up, this may be why.
Dude just went through this on my 91 Si crx with a b16a swap. I got a stage 2 excedy clutch, and my throughout bearing imediatlely went out. I heard a metal noise bounce once or twice, as it kicked it out of gear, then i wasnt able to shift with the car on. But i could put it in 2nd and crank it, and gimp it down the street. Hope this helps. I dont think your cable is bad.
Check on posts recent or archived under the creator, tha big ez, thats also me. I have lots of popsts of all my tranny probs and symptoms.

Replace your pilot bearing. The pilot bearing is probably holding the input shaft and turning it while you take it out of neutral. This sin't such a problem when you shift from gear to gear because the shaft is moving anyway and th synchros can take up a little slack. It happened to me.

That is quite possible..
When it starts to fail, the cable will stretch when the pressure is applied to it..
Even though it is adjusted correctly..

i had this problem... but it was from impropper instalation. i had the exact same clutch you have... the exedy oem replacement for my 88 hf. its a durable little sonofabitch. i beat the **** out of it for 8000 miles and it still had the little wear groves in it... not too bad for a 100 dollar clutch set...
so anyway back on subject. it could be a broken clutch fork. before you put the trans back on, push the fork up and see if the throwout bearing moves forward like it should. just trace the problem... go from the flywheel to the clutch to the pressure plate to the throwout bearing to the clutch fork to the cable to the pedal. just go through it all with a fine toothed comb and make sure every piece is installed and working properly.

not the pilot bearing because it looks fine, but just to be sure i changed that like 6 min ago.The throwout bearking is fine, it came with my clutch kit and the fork looks healthy too when i pull on it , it pushes the throwout bearning smoothly.
got everything put together agian, now i can shift but only when i put a clutch at an angle.Like when i put my foot on it all the way down I cant shift, but if put my foot half way on the clutch it will shift?
