no that is not tru. the 96-97 itr's do not have this stamp. their tranny's are simply marked "LS1" with a bar code. this is the case for the 96 spec of the ITR because the final drive of the 96 spec compared to the 98 and 01 spec are different. the 96 has a 4.4 final drive while the 98-01 specs have 4.7
i know because ive seen a "96 spec" 1997 jdm itr engine and the tranny shell does not have the LSD J4D stamp on it because of the smaller final drive. and im sure it has LSD because we took off the axles and the holes were see thru

yes it true, and you should look through the axle holes, and if u can see a clear O then ur good but if you see (/) then its not an itr tranny

Hey Alex!
The guy has papers from the dealer, but it's been over a year. I figure a lot could have happened since then. He's a nice guy though, but not as nice as you.

Was the tranny new when he bought it from the dealer or rebuilt?
If new, you can tell if he tampered with anything inside by looking for some type of sealant(Hondabond) around where the gear housing meets the clutch housing area. OEM is usually very neat around there. if clean, everything inside should be good.
But the burnout is a fun way to check. You dont have to run it to redline to leave marks, just a quick little chirp should leave marks on a white top
what car are you getting??
