b16 HELP ME, loss of oil, need advice
ok, i had a different thread about this topic but now ive narrowed it down.
just did a compression test on my b16a2. 200, 185, 200, 190, im told the 10 and 15 psi difference isnt enough to matter, right?
ok here, i was told to check my intake to see if there was oil in it, THERE IS, what does this mean, bad pcv valve? where is the pcv valve on the b16.. what else could it be possibly.
there are also two hoses that are bypassed, i bought the car pre- swapped, so i dont know what they did. here, pics..
you can see the two hose fittings that are open, and the two hoses that are clamped together, WHY are they like that???
inside my intake manifold, all oily, also, my intake tube was full of it too, its right where the hose come from the engine to the intake
some more scenerios..
when i start my car, black sooty crap shoots out sometimes.
i lose mad amounts of oil, not leaking, and doesnt seem to be burning it, sometimes when i get on the gas, i see a little pufff of smoke
ok, now you can help, SORRY FOR THE LONG POST

Got the same problem with my b18c, great compression all across, no smoke, but I sure in hell smell burning oil when I drive (no cat). Loosing almost a quart a week.

wow
that is some embarassing wiring. whoever you bought the car from was a real halfasser. those coolant hoses are supposed to go thru the nipples on the bottom of the TB to keep the TB warm in cold weather.
a little bit of oil residue in the intake manifold is normal. your pcv valve may be leaking. try replacing it (theyre like $3). it should be located between the #3 and #4 intake runners on the intake manifold.

the coolant hoses are really up to u. some people believe that if you bypass it, your intake air will be cooler. i think honda put it there for a reason, so i leave mine connected

Re: (joedubovik)
You can also get oil through the breather that connects to the CAI or intake hosing. At high RPM's B16/18s are known to start pushing oil out the breather and PCV. Endyne sells a kit that adds a catch-can for the oil AND replaces the breather hookup to the intake with one that vents to the air.
You can see where you can disconnect the two hoseclamps and hook the TB heater back up. In my experience having it or not having it made little difference to the intake air temperature.

Re: (joedubovik)
i just had my motor done, about maybe 2500 miles on her. Skunk2 head package(no camshafts) with a Soon bottom end. My compression is great, so my guess is it maybe in the headwork performed. Getting by valves.....I have no clue. I'm gonna rip her apart again soon and i'll let you know. BTW a lot of people here burn oil with they're B series, and some don't burn one drop. My original B16a2 never burned a drop, and I beat the ***** oit of it.

Whenever the search feature starts to work again look in this forum as well as the type-r forum(both b series, same principal) under burning oil and you'll spend hours reading on it. I did it,very informative.

Replace PCV yes, duh, and check the oil pan bolts' torque, oil drain plug, sludge around those areas. Clean out intake with the appropriate aerosol, like "B-12" or whatever.

carb cleaner. shoot some down the throttle.
And ****, someone worked on your car. Someone with no skill. Those clamps are NOT honda's, there the crap ones at pepboys or whatever. Get a helms manual, and redo that hose ****. Sea foam the motor when your all done.

The puff of smoke could be engine-burnt oil, or it could be water condensate. If it does that when you just start your car, it could be a leaking valve guide oil seal thats taking on sludge when parked and not getting eaten by the cat because its too cold. Or not.
Illinois is kind of a cold place, right? Dont you want the intake heater thing connected?
Also, theres a big anti-skunk2 thread going on in re breaking valves.
