fixed my 3k rpm hesitation
After changing plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor button I wasn't any better off. When I would reach 3000 rpm the tach would jump around and the car would sputter. This past weekend I pulled my injectors, resistance checked out good. I took the little filters out and drove the car and had the same problem. Then I thought that maybe water was being sucked into the intake somehow from the cold start valve, I plugged it off, drove the car, same problem. So I pulled my distributor off and took it apart and cleaned the lobes inside with a fine sandpaper. Put it back together but didn't drive it until the next day. Been driving all week now with NO problems. The lobes in the distributor weren't really that dirty. It was either that, or something to do with water being sucked into the air intake. Just sharing this cause I've been dealing with this for a few months now, and so far it appears like it has been fixed. Plus, others on here were having similar problems so maybe this can be helpful. BTW, its a 93si.
I don't know the technical name for them I just call them "lobes". They are part of the shaft that is inside the distributor. I'd never opened up a distributor before, but apparently they actuate the sensors inside. I don't know if there is a specific air gap that is supposed to be set between the lobe and sensor, I just eyeballed it and set the gap pretty tight.
Oh. I swapped an H22 in my car. Now I have a hesitation at 3-4K rpms. I did not have this issue with my H23.
Mine must be something else.

The H23 ditributor is on my JDM H22.
Yes, I still have the H23 head.

I was having a hesitation issue with my '93 vtec..
Pulled out the ~8month old plugs that the previous owner put in - they were some oddball Bosch ones. Installed OEM plugs (it says which ones your car needs on the sticker under the hood), problem seems to be completely gone.

i was thinking that i might have that problem to b/c i'm running 6 range plugs instead of 7. so i assume in the summer it's making the plugs to hot? could that be a possibility?
and i swapped in an h23 dist. to a jdm h22 and i still had the hesitation so i don't think it's the dist. either

does it hesitate when at full throttle? it could be ur tps sensor, it might not be doing the right voltages, when i did my swap it was incorrect and under normal acceleration i had a studder at 3k, adjusted to specs and no more studder. under full throttle it was ok though both ways.
I recall some knock sensor talk pertaining to this issue. I have a fairly new one so I never really considered that to be a problem. I think some guys' hesitation problem was just a small jerk (or something like that), then it would clear up. Mine was a full blown spit and sputter for as long as I accelerated past 3000 rpm, in every gear. I actually replaced my knock sensor about 1.5 years ago. I was getting the code after I rebuilt my engine. Replaced the sensor and still got the code, turned out I had the wrong plug hooked to it
. Think it was the power steering pressure switch or something.

thanks for the advice, i'll try that and see it if it fixes my hesitation in the summer.

thats weird, that cleaning the teeth in the dizzy helped you, there are 3 differen ones, a 1 peak, a 4 peak and a 12 peak i think, they are used by the ecu for TDC, CYP and i forget the other, them being clean or dirty should affect a hesitation,
clean or dirty they still will induce a current in the picups that they pass by.
