5w20 and maint. req'd light
Guys, I've got a question. I did a search and came up empty handed. What do you all think of the 5w20 oil Honda recommends for the new Accord. It looks too thin for my liking. I'm thinking of going to 5W30, but wanted to see what all of you think. Also I know that Ford is using 5W20 in some of their new vehicles, and this makes me belive that soon 5W20 will become the norm and everyone will follow in their footsteps. I'm just worried about the protection this oil provides, and am not too happy about paying Honda prices for their oil.
Secondly, where is the switch to reset the Maint. req'd light in a 2000 Accord EX. I've checked underneath the dash and couldn't find anything. Maybe I'm blind. Thanks yall.

I guess you ain't been in a newer Accord Misa mang!
To reset the maintenance required light the newer Accords is different. It's in the owners manual in the glove box. It's something like you have to push in the odo reset button with the car off and the key in the ignition, then you start the car while holding in the reset button and keep holding it until the light goes off. You'll figure it out. Are you sure Honda is specifying 5W20 for their new vehicles? I've never seen that viscosity on shelves. I thought they still specify 5W30 like they have for ages. 5W30 is specified up to 95 degree ambient, any hotter, 10W30 should be used.

Thanks for the help with the maint. req'd light. So you mean to tell me that you guys haven't heard about 5W20??? None of you?? This Accord is my mom's and I was surprised as most of you are/were. It's 5W20 for sure and the oil is like water! Maybe it's just in Canada if you guys haven't heard of this yet. The oil is just as expensive as synthetic and so far only Honda/Ford sells it. Telll me what you guys think? Stick to what Honda says and risk having to rebuild the motor at 100000miles or use 5W30? Thanks

Try posting in the tech forum dude. I highly doubt 5W30 is going to hurt a newer Honda motor. I figured they'd go to 0W30 not that whacky 5W20.
5w20 is used on new hondas and fords, also honda doesn't use the same filter size in the newer ones. i personally think the oil is too thin but oh well that's what honda wants to use now.
