HOLY FAWK! Cracked my mugen header... $975 Mugen vs. $300 DC quality??? Pics inside!

So the other day I was driving around minding my own business when I start to hear this noise. It kinda sounds like a spun bearing or possibly a throwout going bad. But it didn't have any tell-tale signs. It was just doing it completely at random. Shortly after the noise I noticed my exhaust smelled strongly of gas. The smell was accompanied by random backfiring on downshifts, a sure sign of overfueling. Completely out of it and ready to go to bed I just decided to go to sleep and worry about it the next day. The next day I slept in till 5 pm and went out right after I got up so I didn't work on my car at all. Then this morning I finally get around to look at everything and I can't seem to find anything wrong. I even checked the bottom of my header to see if it cam disconnected from the cat or something and there were no dents/scrapes or anything on the header. I figure maybe I just needed a valve adjustment so I went to it and right as soon as I finished I looked down to notice that my header had cracked. Ohh ****. I broke my mugen header. Then I thought back to the time when I first noticed the noise and I honestly can't remember hitting anything. Then the more I thought aobut it I realized that didn't really matter, even if I did hit something a ******* $975 header shouldn't break. My old DC header didn't break even after having the entire weight of my civic smashing on it and it even broke the driver's side motor mount clean out of the block, but the header still stood strong.
Anyways for sake of comparison I have some pictures of both...

this DC header didn't break (just one little pinch) but the whole car and engine that it was attatched to did... definately worth the $300

This thing went through hell, I drove off a cliff and bounced off of like 4 boulders, you can count the dents in the bottom of this thing (I circled them in red to aid in counting)...

so tomorrow it looks like I am going to have to go to full race and see what they can do as far as repairing the header. right now I am fairly upset.

I've never seen a header break all 4welds across the top like that. You must have hit something, and it just gradually got worse until it pulled off. Could easily be repaired though.

yea I have never seen anything like it either. the strange thing is that there isn't so much as a scratch on the bottom of the header to indicate contact w/ something.

Check this out, This is a DC header for a 00-01 GSR, I contacted them for warrenty service, they said its warrantied up to a year. Its a good thing i got em less than a year ago, but when i talked to them, they didnt seem like they wanted to warrenty it. They said send pics and then we will go from there. I could understand if the bottom was fucked up like if i hit something, but the bottom is CLEAN.
Hopefully DC will stand by their product and fix it.

yea henry that's the same thing w/ mine, I have no dents or scratches or anything that weren't there before the cracks??? Do you think that you guys will be able to fix my header? that is interesting though. I guess for now the score is Mugen 1 DC 1
DC headers suck but thats not the issue here. A header that costs $975 shouldnt even crack like that even if he hit something.
That bites. Im guessing it's the result of something else or a freak accident/faulty header. I haven't seen many other headers turn out like that.
