The Max-5 race series uses bolt-in cages. I spoke to Alyn Robson (co-founder of the series) and he said that it held up really well. I've had reservations about bolt-ins, but I guessif it is correctly designed and installed they do their job as well as a weld-in.

It like disney ride.
Some should post the vid of the maita that ride over the hood of the other car. The guy in the top car never lift and leaves skidmarks on the hood.

haven't been around racing long?
miata's can take some serious punishment, and are very safe in major incidents.

I like the miata but it still is a small car and unfortunately Jeremy Lawley's (Panoz school employee) dad driving a spec miata lost it in the Esses last weekend at Road Atlanta in the wet at the bottom of the four and flatsided the concrete on the driver's side. Major intrusion into the car and his dad had to be life flighted to the Trauma center at Grady Hospital. From what I have been told the injuries are complex and extensive. Hope he comes out of this incident alright.

there not simple bolt in cages though, i doubt a auto power could ever hold up to that. they said there was a saftey devices cage in the car, they have welded in nut plates to hold the cage and on my bimmer at least is tied into the sills so i have faith in mine most def after seeing that vid, amazing nothing hit the driver when he was rolling on the wall

personally, I think it has more to do with very large fields of equally matched spec fendered cars, and the bumpin and bangin that comes with it.
Although I dont think the short, narrow wheelbase helps matters much either.

Probably more starts than you think sparky. All the videos and the 1 in-person roll I've seen were Miatas. Regardless of safety, which you'll notice I didn't comment on, I prefer not to get into a car that seems to roll more often than other makes/models. I stand by my statement. One thing I've noticed about a decent number of Miata drivers is that you're very defensive when people say anything about the them. Drivers are quick to defend them as very safe cars no matter who says what about them. Who you trying to convince, us or yourself?
edit: if you like I can post video of the in-person I saw... but I doubt that would sway you much
