Okay now that we have that established, well we've all heard about how much of a pita it is to replace a headlight. For some of the people that have done it before it should take no time but for the beginners it will take about 1-2 hrs to do depending on your mechanical skills.

Tools Needed:

Ratchet
6 inch extention
10 mm socket
Phillips head screwdriver
Gloves ( if your a pansy )

Well first thing you should do is remove the headlight bulbs and get them out of the way and put them aside.



Remove the outside screw on the bumper lens and take that out. DO THIS TO BOTH SIDES.



This is what it should look like after you remove the screw. It will slide right out. DO THIS TO BOTH SIDES.



Remove the bulb socket and the bulb. DO THIS TO BOTH SIDES.



Now find these screws that are attached to the bumper. They are on the inner side right by the tire. There are 2 on each side. Best way to do it is, do on side by turning the wheels, then do the other side.



This is what it will look like once you take the 4 screws out. It will peel off the mounting piece. The bumper will not come off just yet.



Now look in the hole were you took your bumper lens off. There are two 10 mm bolts that are bolted on vertically, removal those. There is two on each side.



Get your 10mm socket, extention, and ratchet and remove these bolts.



This is what it will look like once you have taken off the 4 phillips head screws and the four 10 mm bolts in the hole. Gently pull the bumper off were you took those phillips head screws from. It will come off. Also remember to remove any sheilds that are attached to the bumper. Mine is not totally removed because i have a sheild zip tied. Its easier to do it then see it.



Now remove the two screws on the corner lights. Mine is an 88 so its different for the 90-91 people. Same principle.



It should look like this once you take the screws off and its tough to get it out of the bracket that is held in but gently slide it forward. Take the lights sockets out as well.



Once you have that corner light off, you will see a 10mm bolt that is retaining the headlight assembly, remove that.



Remove this 10mm bolt as well. This is under the headlight itself. It is also holding the headlight assembly, so remove this.



With your hood open, find the two 10mm bolts on the body and remove those. Only remove the ones on the outside of the picture.

Now its just a matter of removing the headlight assembly.

It is pretty easy to do and any beginner could do it. It took me about one hour total to remove the bumper, the headlight assembly and putting everything back together.

REMEMBER TO GET YOUR HEADLIGHT(S) ADJUSTED ONCE YOU DO THIS BECAUSE IT WILL BE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT.

My front bumeprs held on by zipties lol, seriously not a single bolt but it holds up mint. My screws/botls were all rotted so I just drilled em and zipped it, quick and easy installation haha

 

really could have used this when i fixed my fender and head light. i had a hard time with the metal strip that runs along the top of the bumper. didnt even put all the bolts back in. thanks alot im going to take my bumper off right now.. but i remember there being a bunch of screws holding the bumper on under that metal strip. mines a 91.. do you think theres any difference?

Now I'm going to attempt this again. It was really freakin hot the first time I tried and I got frustrated and gave up.

by no means, but you DO have to remove the corner light to get to the headlight assembly bracket. BTW...this is for a 88-89. If you have a 90-91, the side marker is a little different. Im not sure.

no...just unscrew the corner lenses, remove bulbs and pop the lenses off

 

What about back bumpers now! I am going to paint mine soon and trying to decide if it will be worth it to take them off or leave them on.

Gotta take the taillights out to get at the rear bumper

That is only 15 min though with like 10 10mm nuts holding them on, then its practically like the front bumper with the bolt placement

 

is the same way the bumper from a 1990 crx would come of too just 8 screws

 

The way you are showing it done is by taking the whole bumper support off with the bumper. You can just take the bumper cover off first, you just have to take the big flat phillips head screws off that are along the top of the bumper.

 

yeah but those big fat head screws are hard to take off

There is an additional bolt under the bumper. Right below the radiator. But except for that it's pretty similar

 

I just did this this evening to paint my bumper... It seriously took like 10 minutes if that to remove the bumper. 4 screws and 4 bolts in total. Thanks a ton man!

 

you think you can help me on removing oem stock headlight assembly both front and replace them with aftermarket headlights on how to remove and install it thanks
