A little birdie told me that Nopi has cancelled the Utah & Colorado races....
Reliable source too..
Just figured this should be brought public so that people that are planning to travel far to get there know.
This doesn't look good

Effective immediately, NOPI Motorsports is forced to cancel two upcoming NOPI Events located in Colorado (Drag Race and Car Show) previously set for June 21st and 22nd as well as the Utah event (Drag Race, Drift and Car Show) previously set for July 18th and 19th of 2008. NOPI Motorsports has faced extreme weather at their past 8 events, which has affected NOPI events in a great way. Each event the NOPI staff has pushed through these adversities to accommodate all of its sponsors, racers and fans in the best way possible given the circumstances. Many times events have been postponed and made up at a future event due to weather shutting down tracks and making it unsafe to run on.
This unfortunate turn of events has placed a major financial burden on NOPI Motorsports, which already faces an extremely challenging economy. With fuel costs at a record high, people are watching all of their extracurricular activities, and taking a chance at attending an event that would possibly be affected by weather plays a negative roll. “We have been running top notch events for years now,” said Michael Meyers, President of NOPI Motorsports. “I have never been faced with anything like this. We are having incredible support from racers and fans this year, in fact some of the best action we’ve ever seen has taken place here in 2008. There was no way to forecast any of this. We are working through all of it to see how we can make these events up. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused to everyone. This is a major setback for NOPI Motorsports and new territory for all of us.”
Makeup events have not been announced for the two cancelled events located in Colorado and Utah. The NOPI Motorsports staff is working on the possibility of makeup rounds, as well as determining points towards the 2008 championships. Each of these issues will be addressed here shortly.
The next NOPI event will take place at the New England Dragway on August 2nd and 3rd. Please stay tuned for future news and events from NOPI Motorsports for the 2008 season. I know there's a bunch of people in utah that are LIVID right now.... Spend a year building a car and now there's really no national events. What a joke.
Wow... read it like 5 times now and still can't believe what I'm reading. Very sad.

scary to think i have been spending all my time and every penny to my name to rebuild my car to compete in power street and now im starting to get this bad feeling that i may not have a series to race in.i realy want to see this sport grow don't get me wrong ,but it is not looking good
the economy is not gonna hold me back from racing ''ever '' but it kinda makes me wonder if i should start looking into another form of radial racing

You know what, I am TIRED if hearing the weather as an excuse .
Yes Georgia got rained out, but guess what ? They still kept all of our money for the people that showed up .
Only Final round in florida got rained out, everyone who was coming, went to that event.
Atco was fine on saturday and drizzled on and off on Sunday. Seems like they had a lot of people there to me .
E-town- Rained later in the day on Saterday and was beautiful on Sunday. Stands were packed.
MIR - Rained on Sunday on and off ( in open windows LOL ). Saturday was perfect. Everyone that was going to come to that race , was there on saturday. Which means they paid already.
So How does blaming the weather make an acceptable excuse to cancel 2 races?
It seems to me that the series was just poorly planned and/or poorly managed and that is the real cause of the cancellations.
At least just step up and admit it instead of hiding beind weak excuses.

</TD></TR></TABLE>Actually Mason Dixon has DOT races like once a month. Its a heads up 10.0 break out on a pro tree. The rules are street car, exhaust, stock susp., one power adder on DOTs, Allmotor cars can run 28X10.5 slick.
I raced it once last year and had a great time.

Yes it is unfortunate that passed events have been postponed or cancelled, that is life you cannot expect every event to be without incidents. Yes gas prices are outrages and the economy is not where we would like it to be. This sport has come along way, with NHRA being our big brother who just left us to hang dry and now NOPI only giving the west coast 1 race for an entire season is also ridiculous.
This postponing or cancelling two races will only discourage young enthusiast who are inerested in the sport. As a person who is building a SFWD I feel as though there is not enough races and to cut 2 more is just
.
This is gonna be a year to remember.
