SONUVA!!! NEED HELP!!! Insurance trying to screw me.
*******CASE CLOSED! RESOLVED*******
See post 12:45 PM 2/5/2008. Thank you Honda-Tech community!
Hey guys, well, my insurance came back with an estimate around 8800 for my salvage 98 Type R. The highest price type r they could find in San Diego radius was 12,292 which they adjusted for salvage and mileage, and came back with 8800. I have sent them 6 comparable type R's ranging from 13,500 to 21,000. unfortunately, because the ones I found were 2000-2001 R's they are not usable. her logic was a newer car would command more money. So I sent them a 97 for sale for 21,000, again it wasn't usable, but this time her logic wasn't the same. Apparently, I need to show them 98 type R's, or even 99's that are stock, and within san diego radius in order to make my case. Autotrader is dry right now. If anyone has a 98-99 for sale, please let me know so i can submit it as evidence. I am being screwed because of bad timing and not enough R's for sale. Please help if you can.

Craigslist?
This the only free one I know of. Most of the others like yahoo/autotrader cost like 20 bucks.

It shouldn't matter where the car is for sale. Its a rare car, so its not like there's gonna be 55 of them for sale in one city. Value on ITR's doesn't change with the area you are in, unlike other cars.

I know that, you know that, but my ins co does not care. Same reasoning could apply to the year and why it shouldn't matter. Its a rare car. They don't get it, man. I have already pleaded this case. My last resort is 98-99s for sale in San Diego.

After you get your money, I would drop your insurance. It's sometimes better to know someone and pay a little more than having to deal with this. (I don't know your situation so Im not judgeing you on what insurance you have). Just saying that big places like esurance etc wont be the most helpful. I have state farm and have never had a problem. I know my agent personally and its very nice.

Search for some of my topics - I've dealt with insurance companies on Type-R's a couple times and always been able to get great results. The biggest thing is to get an independent appraiser to come up with a value. Also, ask to see the list of cars they are using to come up with that value, most likely they are almost all GSRs or lower.

what you need to say is... There is only 320 of them and more then half are gone which makes them even more rare and hard to find. Take what I can find and use it. With 160 1997s out there the chance of another one being in SoCal is slim.

This is good advice right now. Tell this to your insurance company.
