Default $800 Carbon Fiber hood problems. [From Password]

So naturally after 4/5 hours of fitting my hood perfectly; I open it up and sure enough the PasswordJDM hood damper ******* rips the god damn hood hinge right off the hood. Now the tapped sleeve is all smooth and I don't know what the expletive to do . I called them up and talked to Leo who has helped me in the past. He said "that sucks" and that got me all steamed. I mean I don't expect a new hood out of it but I was hoping they could at least steer me in the correct direction. Well here's a couple pictures of the damage. (Keep in mind I have yet to even drive my car since the restore)

PasswordJDM parts =

You'd probably have to mold over it and re-tap.

But to be honest I'd probably not try to re-use them.

That seems to be your only option, if you have enough meat to tap it is another question....

Re-use the sleeves? or the dampers? I'm not planning on using the dampers again.

i would try to re tap the hood with these things forget what they are called but its basically a short tube with threads on the outside and inside so you can drill the whole bigger and tap it for the tube then use a bolt the inside diameter, i would use some expoxy like 3m 8115 glue if you have access to any of there products like through a body shop, when you screw the tube into the hole.

Try using that liquid alluminun stuff and fill it, bore it , tap it. Would it be even possible just to tap it to the next size up?

A carbon fiber hood is basically made out of glue.

Honda-Tuning's install of the Tein hood dampers had instructions to relieve some of the gas pressure if you're using the damper with a carbon fiber hood, since the pressure is set up for the weight of the stock hood. Could this be the cause? Did PasswordJDM's come with any instructions? If it broke when you lifted the hood from its down position, it would seem like the pressure was too high for the weight & strength of the hood. In either case, they should hook you up with a solution.

For aluminum, you use helicoils to make tapped threaded holes. There may be a way to make something like this work.

I would just use the next size larger bolt and re-tap. I think the next larger size up from 6mm is probably standard thread try a 1/4" tap

Thanks guys I'm going to call them and try to get a metal hood. My paint is fresh and I could just get the hood matched perfectly and not have to worry about it. I'll try tapping the thread's tomorrow and show you how it goes though.

I'd be really pissed off... I always thought the password dampers are supposed to be for cf hoods. Whether or not you have a warranty, you should bug the hell out of them until you get another hood.

Yeah and the pressure was released and the man walked me through it on the phone. I'm sure they'll take care of it - otherwise there'll be hell to pay

Don't try to tap it until you talk to them, some people won't warranty anything once work has been done, or tried to be done.

Seems like more people are having issues with them

So I just got through sending them two emails: 1) showing my broken parts and asking for replacements 2) I gave them the above listed link so that they can see I'm not the only one.
I'm sure they'll back their product up though. They know of my restoration and actually care about my business.

^ That's the way to do it . Don't even attempt to fix the hood until then otherwise you may be out of luck for a replacement if they do intend to give you one. If they flat out screw you over, bash on Password:JDM like everyone else and helicoil or fill in the hole/re-drill it .
