I don't know about this ****. Sounds too far fetched that they would merge. However back in the old days there were those few events that the IDRC ran with NHRA. Who the *** knows.

hmmmmmm
i guess it can only be a good thing. who cares about the drifting...
if you were at the pomona event...i did see a dragster run exhibition trying to get NHRASC to start a class...so maybe if they buy out NDRA they can add the dragsters and im sure some lucas oil guys may come on over...could be some truth to this after all.

It is a neat class, but kinda boring when they run slower then the door slammers.

as cool as it sounds, I dont know. for some reason, it just didnt appeal to me.
And I follow Powerade top fuel/funny car and prostock. I do like that type of chassis, but it wasnt exciting as watching Titan run similar times. Maybe it just needs competition to make it more exciting.
I'm pro-NHRA all the way, but the drifting thing is a bad combo. Spectator wise, maybe allright, but event logistics and attention, I just dont see it happening.

From a magazine standpoint, drifting maybe interesting to cover and take pictures for. But to the sales of products and increase in market for the industry, I just dont see a significant increase. How many guys build drift cars? and of those who do, how extensive are their setups? Even most basic SFWD cars have more technology and performance parts in them than some of these drift cars.
I believe its a fad, a spectator sport like Monster trucks. Drifting is not motorsports, its just like a show like Disney on Ice, but with cars and asphalt.
I sure hope drifting wont combine with the drag racing.

So hows a comination of NHRA with NDRA work? NHRA running events in IHRA/non-NHRA tracks? I dont see how that works. If NHRA ran NDRA or combined it, does that mean there will be NHRA-ran races on non-NHRA tracks?

I am all in support of a reduction of governing bodies.
I doubt NOPI desires to give up say Drifting but maybe they see no more growth in either sport and want to opt out before they start loosing money.
A merger or buyout would affect those on the East Coast more than US on the West Coast.
Between 4 series we had roughly 10 events within a 500 mile radius of Los Angeles.
The only benefit we would see here is maybe an additional street class for those always bitchin about NHRA's Street Stock class.
I think the Dragster class haven't taken off because of the complex nature of the engines in the cars.
Those used to running "rails" have traditionally used use big and small block OHV V8 power. And more then likely see the addition cost of R&D to develop turbocharged 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines might prove to be too much for these types.
Remember drag racing as a whole is surrounded by "traditionalist"
There is also no fear of the small displacement V8 being phased out. Are you kidding! Somebody would just mock up and cast it in the aftermarket.
No reason to make the switch unless their was more prize money involved and right now NHRA SC does not even provide the Contingencies seen in the Lucas Sportsman series.
All in All, I think if the merger does go down, we'll see -
Increased Schedule
Additional Classes
Additional D1 Events
More Prize Money (We can all HOPE)
We'll see what happens, this off-season should prove interesting in all forms of motorsport.

This would be good for everyone involved in the sport, if they can manage to pull it together correctly. It's interesting that I saw Don Nase Jr was a E-Town and Brian Fitzpatrick was at Pomona with their rails. I know for a fact that these would love to run in a class over on NHRA SC side of things.
I don't think it's a R.D. prolem that hasn't switched these domestice guys over, there's plenty of proven powerplants that make over a 1000HP now. It is really quite a simple configuration and cost effective to go extremely fast.
From talking to Nase and Fitzpatrick they really haven't leaned on these things yet, so as fast as Titan is running with a door car I don't think they will even come close to when these guys turn these things loose. I really think this will be 5.8 class soon. Nase has been going consitant 6.40's with a powerglide. If they ever put a clutch in this thing it will be a 5.8 bracket car. To me this is incredibly because it showcases how far we have come in our own respected industry.
Just my 2 cents !!!!

Never thought you would see this happen, will be interesting to see how it goes down. One thing I am wondering is what will happen with all of the domestics coming to NOPI races right now.

Wally Parks and the NHRA are the reason we have tracks and orginized events to race at. Open your drag racing history book.
