So.. i found a guy locally who can install a B18B swap into my civic. He started talking about keeping my D transmission because it's light and would be good for accelleration.. he says a buddy of his creates custom adapters.. wtf? i've been on this messageboard for a while and haven't heard anything like this plus it seems technically far fetched.. I'm starting to question his integrity.
Is this a total load of bull or what?

the OP is talking about b series engine with d transmission.
you posted a link about a d series engine with a b series transmission...

ah, at least you put forth some effort...
I've never heard anything about a b engine with a d tranny.
I know Bisi used to run a d tranny with a f series accord motor way back when. Haven't been able to find a thread yet though

Bisi runs custom gear ratios IIRC, so that would be an exception.</TD></TR></TABLE>
well that can all be fixed with custom gearing from mfactory for example and IF you new anything about the SOHC you would know it has been seriously DE-TUNED!
get your gearing sorted out before you do anything with your engine that alone can make or break a setup!
Oh and the reason bisi uses the D trans is because it is superior not only because it is lighter but also because the syncro’s are much stronger the only thing that holds the d trans back is the bullshit gearing Honda gave it which can be fixed!

I wouldn't say they were detuned; but rather never tuned to make use of the potential they have; they're all pretty much biased towards fuel economy(the chassis they come in is a dead giveaway).
I think the whole reason Bisi started using D-series transmission is because of the weight and availability(they interviewed him in Honda Tuning). His transmission is also using dog clutch instead of synchronizers; which are much stronger but harder to drive on the street.
I'm just saying, out of the box, a B-series has much better ratios(especially the B16 and ITR transmissions) and the gear sets themselves(I'm speculating since I don't know for sure) are a little beefier in the B-series. When you go aftermarket, of course parts should be stronger/better.
I know a little something about doing transmission first. One of my first mods after D15B VTEC swap was a DOHC ZC transmission with CRX Si countershaft and differential out of a 92-95 EX gearbox.

Actually, I run factory 1-5 gears mated to a dog rings by Houseman (www.racegearbox.com).
The only after market gear I have is the final drive set.
BTW, I ran bone stock D syncros until 2004.

hmm.. okay. but back on topic.. d series transmission mated to a b series motor.. possible?
I've got an EX tranny in good shape so keeping it isn't too far fetched.

you said you knew someone who made adapters
so.... if that's true isn't it possible?
you can do anything with enough time/money/resources..
It's seems like the knowledgeable parties in here have given you info on gearing, strength, weight.. alot of good info that should help you decide whether or not you really wanna do something like that. Just up to you to decide whether it's worth it, whether you trust the guy doing the swap, etc..
