EGT gauge
How necessary is the EGT gauge? I am currently getting ready to order...
Boost
Oil Pressure
Fuel Pressure
Oil Temp
Wideband
For cosmetic reasons of how I want the gauges displayed in the car, I'd rather not have a 6th gauge to mount somewhere.

no need for an EGT. The wideband basically replaces it. EGT tells you hot or not, the wideband tells you why your hot or not so basically the EGT is not needed.
the wideband won´t tell u if u r running too little timing or 2 much.
It is really not necessary, i personaly got one because this car is gonna see trackdays and some highway pulls i wanna keep an eye of when i gotta let off the gas before melting a piston

true, but assuming you have a good tuner...and Ill have the best with Jeff Evans, an EGT, i assume would not really be needed.
I mean if theres that much risk of running lean or rich, maybe Ill get 1, but I just really have no where to put it without looking tacky haha

An EGT gauge is not necessary. Your wideband will tell you your afr's.

which has very little to do with what the EGT is telling you...
I agree they arent that necessary.. but not totally

Just get a wideband and call it a day.

If you have a tuner that knows what he is doing, they can look at plugs and tell whats going on timing wise.

sorry to thread jack, but is the fuel pressure gauge really necessary? I would think a water temp gauge would be more beneficial. I'm sure its great to have all gauges but it seams to me the top 5 to have would be boost, wideband, oil pressure, oil temp, and water temp. Am I wrong?
Fuel press gauge is DEF necessary, at least a mechanical one in the engine bay for the dyno.
Stock water temp in cluster and use the ems to get exact reading
Wideband
Boost gauge
Done

why? When your tuner tunes the car they are doing 4th gear redline pulls for hours on end. Everyone I talk to keeps saying its not a necessity, just an addition.

How much do EGT's and coolant temps correlate?
I figured that an EGT gauge is basically only for tuning and a coolant temp and wideband is all you need for the street...

Boost - must have
Oil Pressure - good to have
Fuel Pressure - no need, if your fuel pressure drops, your AF will show
Oil Temp - no need, if your coolant temps are good and low, your oil temps are good
Wideband - very important!
I only run 3 gauges in all my cars, never needed any more, never had any problems

i think EGT's biggest advantage is when u have 4 probes and are triming each cylinder, but for anything under a race car, a good EMS will tell u everything u need know.

yeah doesnt neptune have timing corrections for individual cylinder egt's?

this is why i want to get mine hooked up, just to keep an eye on things when i get into 5th.
i talked to jeff about the egt when he tuned my car, and i think he said its not really necessary
