honda recall *9/14/07*
Honda Motor Company announced plans to recall more than 180,000 Civics from the 2006-2007 model year Friday, in an attempt to fix a wheel-bearing seal that could lead to a wheel falling off the car.
Honda spokesman Richard Jacobs says all of the Civics were produced in Alliston, Ontario and that 80 per cent of the Honda vehicles are exported to the U.S.
The concern is that the seal where the antilock brake sensor is mounted to the rear wheel bearing might allow moisture and salt to leak in and cause corrosion.
The recall was sparked by two related complaints, including one in which the wheel came off the vehicle while it was being towed, though no injuries have been reported.
Owners are being notified of the recall and can contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 for more information.

Safety Recall: Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor and O-Ring Inspection
Service Bulletin 07-055 / September 12th, 2007
Background:
During assembly, some wheel speed sensors may have been improperly installed and do not seal the hub assembly. Water may enter the hub assembly and damage the wheel bearing. In areas where road salt is used, the wheel bearings may corrode, which may cause the wheel to separate and fall off, increasing the risk of a crash." (being in Minnesota, this is just effing fantastic for me)
Vehicles Affected:
2006 Civic:
Coupe R18 : VIN 2HGFG1...6H500009 - 2HGFG1...6H584624
Coupe K20 : VIN 2HGFG2.5.6H700084 - 2HGFG2.5.6H713846
Sedan R18 : VIN 2HGFA1...6H500005 - 2HGFA1...6H528911
2007 Civic:
Coupe R18 : 2HGFG1...7H500001 - 2HGFG1...7H539744
Coupe K20 : 2HGFG2.5.7H700001 - 2HGFG2.5.7H706051
Sedan R18 : 2HGFA1...7H500001 - 2HGFA1...7H502258
Sedan K20 : 2HGFA5...7H700001 - 2HGFA5...7H707417
Corrective Action:
Inspect both rear ABS wheel speed sensors and their O-rings. If an ABS wheel speed sensor or the O-ring is damaged, replace the damaged part and the hub bearing unit on that wheel.

Ahh dang mine is in the affected range. Called up my dealership and they said they won't have parts until mid october so they can't schedule me in. Hopefully I can get this done before I take it up to the mountain passes.
i went to honda today and asked them about it.
they said they just heard about the recall...and that they will have to give me a call when they have the parts and stuff. because as of now. they have nothing to fix it with.
