2-Way Car pager range question
Ive done some research on a two way pager for my car. So before anyone tells me to do a search...i have but havnt really found wat i want to know.
Since alot of the 2-way pagers dont list the range on their site ive only seen specs for a few and most max ranges are from 2000-3000 ft so im assuming that 2000-3000ft is the usual range for pagers (if not my bad).
My question is what pagers have the highest range cause ill be parked at one end of a huge campus this fall and need some decent range. lookin for About a mile give or take (~4800-5200 ft). Is there anything out there that has those kinda specs.
PS...for those who are gonna tell me theres no point of having one with that high of range cause by the time i get back the cars gone anyway please dont. I just got a ravelco installed...and regardless of what anyone thinks...i feel that will give me enough time to get to my car with minimal damage. id rather be stuck for a radio and sum broken columns then a wrecked car.
Also, any opinions and comments on ravelco, chance of the car juss getting towed, or anything that doesnt answer my question is unecessary.
Thanks for the help

I doubt even the Viper SST that advertise one mile range will work for you, especially on a campus with lots of buildings, WiFi interference and other barriers like that... Being inside a building will also cut your range.
Please keep in mind that all alarm ranges are tested under ideal conditions (line of sight, open field, no RF interference), so you will not get the range advertised (unless you live in the desert).
By the way... This is Honda-Tech... People are going to give opinions of things regardless of if you post that they'll be unnecessary....
With that said, Ravelco sucks, and you could have accomplished the same thing for about $20 with a few well hidden & installed kill switches...

Ditto the above^^^^

This is the way I look at 2-way pagers. I have had a lot of them. They are a nice add on feature. But they should not be depeneded on as part of your security. I build my security system around the fact that they will probably not work. If they do then great. There transmit power is to low and they are on a crowded portion of the RF spectrum. Spread Spectrum tries to fix this problem by hopping channels and spreading the transmission over mutiple frequecies. It works but there is a limit to what it can do.
Your best bet if you really want this to work is to go the GPS cellular route as mentioned. Cellular providers pay for their own dedicated chunck of the RF spectrum so its not crowded. They also have powerful transmitters.
Whats the rate for the Compustar version I haven't found anything on their site.

Great info above. The compustar works like the dei gps tracking. You pay for hits. The odds of your car staying put depends on 1. the install of the alarm, 2. what kind of security they have at your school. 3. If the theif has a tow truck that is really really really rare.
