Default Question regarding Compustar 2wss-a

i just had it installed, my question is the 6000 feet range..does that mean im supposed to be able to arm/disarm my car from 6000ft? or does that range just apply to the paging? Im inside my office building right now and i cant unlock my car which is outside in the parking lot, maybe 500 ft away.

The 6000 ft. is it's max range under ideal conditions, a lot of things will have an effect on range, from how the ant. is mounted, strength of batt. in remote, and what is in between the remote and the car. 94

PS... If all you can get is 500 ft of range, [and you can see the car] go back to where you had it installed.

i had problems yesterday even unlocking it right in front of the car. So i replaced the battery, and did the remote-learning thing with the key turning and got the confirmation beeps. That was last night so i havent tested it much close range. But i still cant unlock it from work. Im on the bottom floor which is a level lower than the parking lot level. Maybe thats it. The antenna is mounted in the center of the windshield at the top in front of the rearview mirror.

Does your windshield have a metallic tint?

Yes, concrete, electrical wiring and conduit, lighting, P/A systems and other things will have an effect on range.

Again, check what kind of range you get when you can see the car, if you are not getting close to that 6000 ft of range when in direct line of sight, there is a problem someplace, it could be the remote or the ant. or in the RF section of the alarm brain.

We test the range of systems we install by driving the car across the highway and up the ally on the other side and around a corner about 4000 ft away, on the Compustars we do not lose "contact" until we go around the corner and get some houses between us. 94

yea i think it might be a bad remote. It works 60% of the time. When i turn the car on the doors dont even lock. After lunch it took maybe 5-6 times to arm the car while i was standing right in front of it. Im gonna take it back.
