Skunk 2 Pro 1 vs ITR cam test!
Hey guys, finally got a tranny in the car that won't fall apart on the dyno and got a chance to do some cam testing. This was on the red integra. We were running ITR cams all last year and wanted to try the Skunk 2 Pro 1 cams.
This dyno was with the boost controller settings identical. When you get an engine to breathe better, power goes up, and boost goes down, because there's not as much restriction on the intake side. That being said, pay attention to the boost curves between both runs. Unfortunately, the Motec windows intrepreter isn't opening the DOS logs correctly, so the only way i know to show the logs is with a pic. You can see that the boost went down quite a bit it high rpm with the S2 cams, and power was still above the ITR cams by quite a bit.
Also, i didn't bring the boost on as hard as i could have because it was spinning the tires, so i had to gradually ramp it up. This was done the same on both runs though.
I think i'm going to have to give the Pro 1's

ITR cam boost plot (who's that sexy bald guy?)

340kpa = ~35psi
S2 Pro boost plot

317kpa = ~ 31.5psi

36.6 hp just from changing cams is a great investment! with almost 5 psi less boost too !
thanks for the writeup!
42whp? not in my math
your abacus is malfunctioning (edit) i see what your adding nm

1.5mm OS intake valves, and 1mm over exhaust. S2 cams ended up at +2 intake +2 exhaust. ITR cams ended up at 0 intake, -2 exhaust
GT4294 turbo, Full Race divided top mount manifold, 84x89mm motor, edelbrock intake manifold, 74mm t/b, T1 ic, 4" dp and ex.

damn, i got worried about running 1mm oversized intake and exhaust.
Are your pistons are custom cut? what c/r?
to be honest im trying to see if i can get away with these and my vavles on my stock shelf 85mm 9.7:1 c/r cp pistons.

Whoops I read from the points labled on the graph not peaks.
Abacus is fine... it's my brain that malfunctioned.

The car and Chuck are on their way there. I'm at home playing daddy.

SWEET. I was waiting to see you test those out. Looks like a great gain to me.
More area under the curve...less boost...lower Iat's... hell yeah!
I just wonder how the Pro 2's would compare...

Cam selection has a lot to do with exhaust manifold and turbo combination. With a good breathing setup, i think they would be benficial. With a small turbo and/or cast style manifold, probably not so much.
Myspace picture ftw baldylocks!
Good info tony... I've been wanting to see some pro1 feedback. My buddy Greg was over at Skunk2 last month and spoke with Tony over there about using them on his application and seeing how they would do compared to his GSR's. Looks like I don't need to do any testing now, lol.
I was talking to skunk2 about those cams and what I was told by them was that they have seen 80-100HP increase with just the cam upgrade on boosted cars after 400hp.what you just posted backs that up 100% glad to see it I know my next investment
Good test Tony. I saw about the same gains changing from the ITR cams to the JUN 2's. I imagine the Skunk Pro1's are A LOT cheaper then the JUN cams though.
What are the gains you saw between the 1.01 and the 1.28 rear housing?

do you think reg skunk2 stage 2 would have the same affect they have more duration and less lift? they are one of the all motor "wonder cams" too

what about the valvetrain? 12+mm lift+10k rpm+35lbs+wrong valvetrain=pile of scrap metal. I think this is what may have happen to my white car.
