it's the same button you use to reset your trip mileage...
it's the same button you use to reset your trip mileage...
When you begin to hold the reset button I assume that you have the ignition all the way off....
However, I don't understand if when turning the ignition to on I go to the first turn or do I put the car in ACC mode for the ten seconds??
Thanks for the help trying to do something nice for my girl.

I followed the procedure as you published inaccording with Honda Manual as I recalled how mechanic has reset the maintence required light on my 2005 Civic LX.
However, my Maint. Req. light has come on again, now my LX has 45,000 miles.
I tried pushing the trip odometer reset down and turning the ignition key on for at least 30 sec. and then start my car. The light is still on.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You don't need to start the car. You just press and hold down the trip odometer button while you turn your key to the ON position. (key position two)
How long has it been since your light was last reset? They do come back on, and periodically need to be reset.

I had followed all the procedure by pushing down and kept holding pressure on trip odometer before turning ignition key to ON position. After 30 sec., the Maint. Required light was still on and confirmed with engine running. I even tried hooking up OBD II code reader, but there was nothing to reset nor any code to be clear.
All routine maint. was done with oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs cleaned.
Thanks

Odd, but I followed these directions a few times, with no luck (I also have a 2001, and my manual is identical). But when I did it another way, it worked.

This involved holding the button down for 10 seconds before turning the key to the "on" position. The manual's description clearly says to hold the button down for 10 seconds after turning to the "on" position.

1. Turn the engine off.
2. Press and hold the select/reset button in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Hold the button until the indicator resets (approximately ten seconds).

That's the point -- the manual with it's push, turn key, hold for 10 seconds instruction did not work. Here's the instructions that did work -- not from the manual...
1 Put the key in the ignition, but do not start the car. Find the trip meter reset button on the dash board of the car.
2 With the engine off, depress the trip meter reset button and hold it for 10 seconds.
3 While still holding the trip meter reset button, turn the key and start the engine. This should reset the light. If it does not reset, turn the car off and try again.
Push and hold for 10 seconds, turn key.
In any event, it's off!

Hm .. weird. It works fine for me when I do it.
Anyway, yeah, the light's off! That's all that really matters! lol Maybe now people won't have an issue trying to figure out how to reset the light.

Hey, new here.
I know this has been beaten like a dead horse, but I followed these instructions over and over, but no luck.
After months of looking all over the internet, I realized that I had to turn my lights off for the steps to work.
Once I turned my lights off, I was able reset my Maint Req'd light.
