Just wondering if anyone knew how to disconnect the switch that makes you push your clutch in to start your car. Thanks.

 

yeah. just "jump" the clutch safety switch like how you would check OBD1 codes. you will lose your cruise control since it is one of the inputs for it. i would recommend against it though.

 

Just ask some people that install alarms with remote start.

while in cruise control and depressing the clutch, the cruise control module sees that the input of the clutch switch(when depressing clutch), thus deactivating the cruise control. same thing like your brake, just different input.

i did the same thing to my old 94 Civic EX. i did it because my clutch switch went bad and was lazy to buy another one. not that i really regret it, but it's kinda a "half-***" repair. lol, sometimes i would forget it's in gear. since i started to work in the automotive field, you have a sense of pride and professionalism so that kind of half-*** **** is in the past. but it's up to you.

 

I jumped my clutch safety switch about 60K miles ago. I love being able to reach in the car from the outside and start it up. I haven't had any problems at all. I don't let anyone else drive my car, and I have no problem remembering to leave it in neutral. In fact, by habbit, I still press in the clutch most of the time.

 

The DA has two seperate switches so I don't think it would affect your cruise control, but I haven't tried it. I guess later models are different?

When you do remote start, the alarm has a negative output for when the car is in the process of remote starting. You connect this wire to the clutch wire that needs to see ground to allow the car to start. That way you still need to put the clutch in for normal starting. HOWEVER, no legitimate installer would willingly install a remote start system on a manual transmission car without some kind of safety mechanism to ensure the car will not start in gear, ie, putting a tilt sensor on the shifter.

I would never do it regardless because it is retarded to rely solely on your ebrake to park your car. You should always park your car in gear. I used to live just around the corner from a residential hill, so I've seen plenty of cars planted in the concrete wall in front of the house at the bottom of the hill. And I've personally driven many cars where it did not matter whether the ebrake is up or not. Being that it requires periodic adjustment, and rear brakes are a wear item, 9/10 people neglect the ebrake.

Imagine your scratching your ***** early morning on a cold day and you push your start button but coincidentally there is a little child in front of your car at the exact same moment and you left it in gear.

Or you have kids and they think its cool to hit daddy's remote and start the car while you are under the hood?

Too unsafe.
