Default Drivers side door wont lock 2001 ITR!!!!!! help!!!

All of a sudden my driver side door wont lock. When I lock from remote it goes 1/4 of the way but wont lock fully, which is why you can still open the door from outside after pressing lock from remote. also its no wiring problem b/c the lock moves. i try to manually lock it but it just doesnt lock. It goes back to its original position of being locked 1/4 of the way. Do you guys have any idea on how to fix this at home?? Thanks all! pictures or drawing would really help!!!

UPDATE: as one of you mentioned, If i hold the door handle and manully lock it, it locks perfectly fine. But once I let go of the door handle it doesnt lock again. I took off the door panel and the film of plasic behind door panel to see what was going on. Everything looked ok to me. The entire locking mechanism is still inside of the door itself behind the metal so I had limited visibility. It seems as if something is holding the lock from moving when door handle is not lifted. Do you guys know how to fix this??

check the drivers side door switch, sounds like its not closing properly.

If the switch sticks out a bit it won't let the drivers door lock.

The switch is on the b pillar the same one u push in and out to make the dome light go off and on

Are the locking components on the door panel or the door itself?? Also, when taking off the door panel do the speakers need to be moved??

Do I have the door panel removing steps correct?
1. remove 3 skrews
2. take off door lock plastic and unplug the power lock
3. take off door panel from bottom up
4. disconnect the 2 power window plugs. (2 on driver side and 1 on pasenger side)

from what i understand most hondas are famous for the door lock acutators sticking and/or binding. usually the plastic gears in the actuator wear and become damage or misaligned. i have the same problem right now and have to lock my doors before i arm the alarm.

i wanted to replace the factory ones with genuine oem ones, but they are about 170 bucks each! i plan on going with aftermarket ones.

Can you lock it with the key and the door closed?

try holding the handle like your opening the door, and locking it like the old dummy locks, my car did the same thing, when i held the door handle open and flipped the lock back and forth a couple times, it solved the problem *shrugs shoulders* must have been sticky. try that.

Only a few possibilities have been mentioned, the door pin switch in not one of them.

That would be the first thing I would look at, as the symptom, [door not locking and lock lever only going 1/2 way] is exactly what will happen if you try and lock the drivers door when it is open, unless you lift the door handle while doing so. 94

i used to have this one, but only after i disconnected the metal rod leading to the door lock mechanism (security).

its a pita getting in there, so i wouldnt recommend looking, but if youre really stumped and you are sure its definately something physically blocking it, i'd say take the door panel off and have a look see why its not locking properly.

one thing it could be is if there was somehow contact between the locking mechanism and the window rail or pane. But again, this depends...are you the first owner or did someone own the car before you?

When you lift the door handle the "tab" that prevents the door from locking is moved out of the way allowing the lock mechanism to engage, the same thing should happen when you close the door, the "tab" is in the latch mechanism, and although the lever connected to the door handle is working to move the "tab" out of the way, the lever in the latch mechanism is not and may be broken, worn out or just jambed up.
You will have to remove latch to see if you can see the problem, or just hit up a pick a part and get another one, they are not that hard to remove on most cars.

If you would just realize that the MM&Y of your car does not have to be kept a secret, I may be of more help. 94

Yea they are not a lot of fun the remove, first thing you have to do is disconnect the linkage rods connected to it, that's the hard part, then you unscrew the 3 screws on the outside end of the door around the latch.
There will be 5 linkage rods you will need to remove, outside door handle, outside lock, inside handle inside lock and the door lock actuator, the rod "clips" will be the same kind the are on the inside handle and lock switch linkage, the plastic clip clips to the rod, once it is unclipped from the rod, the rod itself can be pulled out of the clip, that should stay in the lever the rod was connected to.
You should be able to use any 2000-2001 Integra drivers door latch, find one at a junk yard, [pick a part] should not cost more then $5 - $10, you can of coarse get one at you Acura parts counter, although It will be more then $10 I bet.
Hint, if your going to do work on your own car, get yourself a Haynes manual, it;s got pix. 94
