Spun a bearing...need ideas! Please help...lol
I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum. Both turbo and all-motor related. If not, please move. And sorry for the long write up.
I'm not a big poster. I usually read and then go my way, but because of my unfortunate circumstance, I'm showing my face today. I recently blew my motor and now I need some good particular advice on my behalf. My current setup is, well was, a built LS/Vtec. Fully built block: Forged rods, 11.8:1 pistons, etc... Built Type R head: 3 angle valve job, springs, retainers, port/polished, skunk stage 2 cams and other crap I don't understand...lol The motor lasted me over 25K strong miles daily driven (which includes going to the track/drag strip/and some spirited driving), but it decided to crap on me 40miles away from home this past Friday, while I'm cruising at about 55-60mph in 5th gear.
I actually wish I was more car literate. I got word from my shop today. They told me that my block is done, but my head is perfectly fine. I was there when they drained my oil and there were a few chips from the bearing. The crank is scarred and cylinder #1 was soaked in oil.
I don't want to spend no where near the amount of money I spent building that ls/vtec motor. I want to keep my head since its in good condition. What would you do? Would getting a stock LS block and turboing it with mild boost (6-8psi) be dangerous? Should I just get a GSR block and put my Type R head on it? Or should I rebuild it
, which I really don't want to do?

Sorrry for the confusion...my car was all-motor. Never boosted. I'm trying to decide now if I should boost it or if it will be safe to boost it.
The car is at the shop, so I'm not able to take pics. I'll try to take some tomorrow if I get home from work in time.
I was on my way to buy a LS block tonight, but I didn't want to rush too quickly. Though I do want my baby running asap. I was making about 220whp all-motor. I'm just trying to stay in that same hp range.

300 ish hp is easy with a lsvtec turbo. With a conservative tune on pump gas you will not hurt the stock sleeves. But you should be able to rebuild you motor for far less than going boosted will cost.A good turbo manifold will cost almost as much as a sleeved all motor block.
Well, I guess I'm planning on building in stages. I was going to get a LS block now and turbo it a little later. That way I can at least get her up and running.
rebuild it.
new crank will cost you $100, polish it. New bearings $100, new rings $100-150.
Since your block is sleeved don't waste it. Are the cylinder walls fucked or you can hone it out. If not bore it some more unless you are already max bore.
You can recondition the rods unless you horribly fucked it up.
The rebuild shouldn't cost you more then $1000-1500. Machine block will put it back together for you just slap the head on and put it back in. There is no reason why you should waste a sleeved block.
I personally don't see how you could of destroy the motor completly. I would take it to the machine shop and see if they can rebuild it. That's a waste of a perfectly good block.
I would try to go to different machine shop then you used last time. Motor should not blow up like that after 25k miles unless you didn't maintain it. or you just beat on it all day long revving it to 9k.

Yeh... it was my fault the block went on me. I knew I needed new rings, but I didn't take it as seriously as I should have. Turns out, I washed the rings away. I was planning on getting new rings in about a month or so. I didn't expect anything to happen this quickly.
My plan is to rebuild it now. But, if I do come across a complete GSR block soon, I won't hesitate to buy.
Thanks for all the feedback and more feedback is welcomed... As for me? "You live and learn." I shouldn't have slept on burning oil. This was a strong *** motor. Ran low 13s on stock tires. My ONLY problem ever with this motor was this happening and it was my on negligence. This motor started up faithfully every single day, since initial build, with NO problems.

Cause I thought it was...I was wrong.

Because I bought the block already built from a friend and thought it was sleeved.... Why is it such I big deal that I "thought" it was sleeved?

because if you thought it was sleeved but it wasnt, what else do you think is done to it, but isnt?

So do you have anything constructive to add or are you just going to be hung up over my non-sleeved block?

when someone tells me I have a 1000 dollar mod done to my block I usually like to know for sure. Not a big deal just kind of weird.
Update...
So, I ended up rebuilding the motor for boost. Bought an InlinePro kit and got the car running a few weeks ago
. Haven't driven it though, because I'm waiting on my dyno tune appointment
. So at the moment, it's just sitting looking pretty. I wish I called earlier to make an appointment. Oh well. At least I'm running again and will be better than ever.

I actually thought about it really hard and almost went that route (b21 to be specific).

The first motor I was using Probe pistons with Probe rings. Now I'm using CP
