Got back from the dyno
First off, great turn out yesterday guys! It was great seeing all of you again. Sorry I never made it back, I had 100 things go wrong with my bands show and last minute preparations.
Anyway, got tuned up at Jeff Evans Friday. Thought I would share what happened and the numbers I made. Some of you already talked to me.
Story:
So you all know I had to rebuild my head after my timing belt snapped, (it was put on by my family mechanic, and I am sure it wasn't tight enough based off how the teeth shredded off the belt). It was the first time for me ever rebuilding an engine. I had a experienced tuner and now friend (Tgreaves on H-T), Tim, help me through the process and teaching me ALOT. Everytime I questioned if what we did was right, it was 100% right haha, so thats good.
Anyway, put a greddy belt on this time, along with a new SMSP header, and Jenvey ITB's with custom horns. I actually used the coat hanger method to tension the belt this time, so I just ripped the spring off the tensioner and pulled that summabitch tight as I could. Jeff checked it so that it wasn't over tight when I got there.
I made 192 whp and 140 ftlbs at my last tune.
Why I Freaked out:
So my family mechanic cut and welded my smsp exhaust to fit on the new header for me the day before the tune. So at 7am Friday I go and pick it up, and of course all 50 year old + V8 lovers and builders, honestly don't know **** about tuning our cars. He ASSURED my dad (who drove up 3 hours with me to Jeff's towing the ITR) that my car would not start, I probably put the timing belt on wrong (since I had to take it to him last time to get it on before I knew how to do it), and that I would have NO brakes the way I ran the vacuum lines from the canister. He also assured me the bolts in my header and ITBs were bottomed out and I would have leaks....which I knew was complete BS cause I went out and bought shorter bolts to prevent that problem, and reused almost half the ones I took out anyway....
So the whole way to Jeffs I am scared as hell my family mechanic is right and when I turn over the key all Im goin to here is valves slamming into pistons and blow my whole head again..
Thank god for Jeff:
Jeff looks over everything, assures me I did it the right way, even the coolant bypass I did right apparently cause the R isn't overheating. Jeff got the R on the dyno, tuned it like a champ. It made 218 whp and 146 ftlbs...I haven't gotten a chance to upload the dyno plot yet...and it made a consistant average of 215 whp.
STREET TUNE:
When we went to street tune out of no where everything starts freaking out and CLOUDS of white smoke start pouring out of my exhaust. It was so bad if you were driving behind me there was NO way you could have seen to drive. my whole car still reaks of buring oil on the inside. Jeff had no idea what went wrong and we return to his garage.
He does a leak down test, all the cylinders are good, and he is pretty positive I had a bent valve guide or messed up valve seal that I missed and thats the problem. But we both were thinking its weird how it just started burning oil all of a sudden, and THAT MUCH? it burned a quart in about 45 mins.
At the last minute Jeff thinks of the PCV valve and asks what I have hooked up to it....I had a vacuum line on it, pretty much sucking oil into the cylinders...he thinks that might be a huge part of it. so we pull the line off, put a bolt in it to plug it and keep a vacuum and start the car...it still smokes for about 10 minutes and then we street tune again..
Final Results:
Car drives like a dream, idles like a dream, even cold starts and it idles like a dream even with those ITB's! Jeff saved me a HUGE headache from his knowledge and experience and still tuned the hell out of my R, made sick power, all while that was running incorrectly.
He pointed out he had seen someone do this before and when they got it back on the dyno running correctly they picked up 6-8whp.
So with that said, I gotta get another dyno soon! I am hoping I am over 220 whp now that its running right, maybe 225?!?! haha
Now all I gotta do is DRIVE it to my family mechanic so he can see how wrong he was and that I did in fact know what I was doing.
Thank you Jeff Evans for a great tune! Car runs like its stock. For those of you wondering about which tuner to chose, Jeff spent an extra 2 hours probably helping me figure out what was wrong with my car and truely cared to solve the problem. Great guy, great tuner.

Sounds good!!! It's ashame you had to waste 2 hours fixing problems instead of getting in an extra 2 hours of tuning.
I'm also curious about the parts list

Glad to hear it's running well, Scott. Jeff told me about the horror stories from the tuning session. Happy to hear you got it all squared away. Let me know when you are ready to come back for a retune.
BTW, Jeff should be getting your graph up in the next day or so.

218 whp-146 ft/lbs not to shabby for the build. Addign a header and ITB's got me like 26 more whp than I had before haha and I forgot to mention it made power till 9,000 rpms...Jeff had to keep extending the dyno pulls to see where it would finally peak lol

thanks man. I am pretty happy. I wanted to make 215...and it made that as a average, and maybe is even over 220 now without all that oil being in the cylinders... I might drop $50 sometime this week and dyno somewhere
