Default Sound deadening removal with liquid nitrogen - Movies Inside

Reading through the archives I kept noticing posts referring to the 'dry ice technique' for the removal of the Honda sound deadening material from the chassis of our beloved cars. From what I had read it sounded pretty reliable compared to the traditional heat gun method I had already tried on my car.

We thought that we would try something different!!!!!

My buddy managed to obtain a litre of liquid nitrogen and we decided to test it on the floor pan of my SiR to see how easy the sound deadening came off.

As you would imagine it worked like magic! We used about a half a litre of the liquid in the movie clips below and the other half was used on test pieces which we did not film.

We estimate that in order to remove all of the deadening material from the cabin area of a CRX would probably require around 3.5 litres. You can see from the movies how quickly the process takes and provided your sensible with the stuff and exercise caution whilst using it you shouldn't have any problems.

I hope this information could be of use

Probably best to right click and save movies to computer!

Where did you find the liquid nitro? It'd be a cool thing to do, if you can purchase it fairly inexpensively.

[Doc Brown]Maybe Liquid Nitrogen is available at every 7-11 in 1988 Marty, but back here in 1956 its not that easy to come by![/Doc Brown]

LOL JK

Thats pretty amazing. We use just dry ice but this is even better because there is essentially no material clean up and no worry about stuff flying back at ya because it evaporates so fast. Dry ice down the back of your shirt is not too nice.
