Sound deadening removal ?????
I'm in the middle of "gutting" my car, i tore up the carpet and started removing the sound deading (That tar like substance) with a paint scraper. Is there any other way to do this without scraping the hell out of the floor boards underneath (ie. chemicals, heatgun , etc.....).
Any help is appreciated.......

One way that I've heard is using heat guns to soften it up. You could also use a blowdryer is supose. I'm not sure how much easier it will make it, but it's worth a try.

i used a blow torch and a scraper.. came off like hot butter
NO!!!!!!
Dry ice, set on sound material, let get really cold and then hit it with a hammer, it breaks apart and isn't messy!!!

I've been told that Aircraft Remover works very well for this. A guy I talk with everynow and then said that he used it on his CRX and it came off and left the floor looking really clean. Just paint the stuff on the tar with a brush, let it sit for a couple minutes and it pretty much dissolves the tar into a gooey liquid. Just be very careful with the stuff, you can mess up your skin if you get it on yourself. Also make sure to do it outside and don't breath in the stuff for too long.

b18c5eh3 will know how to do it as he just gutted and stripped his new project car to get the ultimate paint job..
also really how much weight does this save? is it enough to to where i wont mind the extra road noise, i know this stuff is all over the and under the car as well.. i know the itr does not have any noise surpressor.. so it saves some weigh i think..

Yeah all you need is A. Dry ice B. Chisel C. Hammer and finally but most important D. TIME!
Just leave the dry ice sitting on the tar and let it cool off. I wouldnt try just hitting it with a hammer cuz you might bend stuff.
ALso when i did this to my car it was at least 35-40lbs, but then again my car is a 4dr dx!!

If you can't find any dry ice, CO2 will work too, though not as well. You've got to spray the crap out of it with a fire ext. (filled with CO2) and it will eventually cool and harden and brittle to the point where it should come up. I would only go this route only after you did everything shy of hump somebody's leg to find some dry ice, though.
