hey i have a question, i just bought the tran yesterday and when i picked it up and shake it.. sounds like something is loose in there.. is this normal to all trannies? and also.. whats the difference in y80xxx and s80xxx? i see 2 diff #'s on my 2 tranny

 

The difference being it's a gsr or ls, I Think.
I have both, but it's dark out, and I'm lazy, I'll check it tomorrow though.

is s80 a type r?

Damn dude how big are you lol I just pictured you as some big shrek picking up a box, shaking it to see if you hear screams lol. Im just messing around lol. Bu tyou must be pretty strong to pick up a tranny and shake it with ease haha or maybe im just weak

haha you're no help but yeah i picked it up but i didnt really shake it.. i lift it up to put it in my trunk but i hear some things in there loose

S80 == LS

this is false information....s80 and y80 come in both ls and gsr gears...in fact...it even comes in si gears..cause my si tranny reads y80..

hey Memp, that's what the stickers are on my two trans, So that's how I saw it.

The ls is a 95, and I think the Gsr around the same year,
So if that's not how you identify them, then what is?

 

either by counting teeth...or by installing them on the car...when i bought the si tranny and it said y80...i was ready to raise the BS flag until i installed it and saw the gearing was SI gearing...same with a gsr tranny i had that read S80...so from then on i stopped reading stickers

 

lol, lame. Honda should of came up with something better then.

 

So how many teeth are in the Type R, GSR, and LS...I want to know now, cause I might be picking up one pretty soon...
