Re: Wrecked CRX Rebuild
Looks like the elderly man thought he was braking when he actually stepped on the gas.
I'm feeling soooo much pain on your behalf after watching that video.

Really?
You pulled out of a parking spot into oncoming traffic.
You were at fault, and the police SHOULD have at least issued you a ticket for failure to yield the right of way.
Looks like the elderly man shouldn't have had to step on the brake if the crx wasn't pulling out in front of him.

Begin boring part about the accident. I can ramble on, it took 6 months to get the truck's insurance company to cut me a check for what I wanted.
So it was initially my fault, but then declared 50/50 fault. Few things that you cannot see in this video. First is that the street begins just out of camera range. Second it is Philadelphia and the car in front of me is against me. Additionally, he turned onto the street when I backed up the second time. He then stopped. He start moving forward slowly and started to decelerate. Whenever I get my front end out, his truck torques up then hits me. I stopped and held on the horn. The better quality video was sent to the insurance companies, and it was declared 50/50.
This guy old hit another car in a similar situation only a month prior, and probably shouldn't be driving. You do put your faith in the hands of those who are already in the lane when coming out of the safe zone. Things such as slowing down, and stopping really sign to the other driver that your yielding, and does give them the impression of safety.
I have been reading laws for months, and was able to fight it.
End boring part.
Why hasn't anyone said anything about the picture of the b18c type R ?!?!?

Re: Wrecked CRX Rebuild
probably because they were expecting to see a WRECKED crx, as in front end all whacked out of shape. beats me.. very clean rex though.
ps, i think it was your fault for coming out. consider yourself lucky to get 50/50. Should have paid attention to ANY cars on the street before you pulled out.

Re: Wrecked CRX Rebuild
This is why I like to require elderly folks that have been involved in an accident to go to DMV and get their eyes checked. They don't like it so much when DMV makes them turn in their license, but at least I know they aren't going to hit my kid

Here are some pictures. Nothing special. I took it apart to validate it had type R internals and replace the gaskets. The flywheel and pressure plate had hot spots on them, so I ordered new ones.

Watch the video in 720p, the framerate should make a difference.

Re: Wrecked CRX Rebuild
I watched it again. If he stopped out of view, it was probably because of a sign or he's looking for something. He's obviously distracted. Regardless, you need to hit the gym! Manual steering on a rex is not that bad. It took you almost a whole 60 seconds to get out of that spot, and I would still say you pulled out in front him at the last second. He had the right of way, even if you did think he was slowing down. But I'm glad insurance paid you. In 18 years all they gave me was $100 for a damaged tire. GL with the swap.

Re: Wrecked CRX Rebuild
daaamn that rywire harness is nice - it comes with all the plugs.
I just got a cheap $60 harness at www.pannauto.com and the ECU part looks the same but it didn't come with any of the plugs on the VTEC harness

Re: Wrecked CRX Rebuild
Seriously! Is that video real? Why did you pull out so slowly?? You going? no? okay I will go, wait your going? Okay Ill go wait. crash!!! LOL When I see a vehicle moving towards me I get nervous and mash the gas pedal to try to get the hell out of the way.
I do have a serious technical question for you. What camera are you using for security in the video? How good is it at night?
I am looking for a good camera.

#BEGIN Wreck conversation (Boring)
I don't know why I was going slow. I do go to the gym 3-4 times a week, and can easily carry an honda engine. It was first thing in the morning and I wasn't in a rush. If I mashed the gas, I would have just hit the cars on the other side of the street, or got T-boned. I was more stunned that the guy was accelerating. Everyone should go to the city find the tightest parking spot, and see how long it takes to get in and out of the spot. I would love to see the videos to compare.
As for the legal, people are combining 3 separate (PA) laws in there reasoning. They are combining standard intersection, changing lanes, and coming out of parking spot. In PA the law concerning this topic is something like: "You should only leave a safe zone when it is safe to do so." I argued 2 points because of this. First, the truck's deceleration gave me reasonable expectation of safety. Second, the truck did not perform an evasive maneuver therefore the driver must of intentionally hit me, or was not paying attention to the road. The video got me from $0 to $3500, because I could prove he decelerated then accelerated.
Trust me I don't like the video any more than you guys. I had it and it was relevant so I included it. Hopefully my build will reconcile my failure of letting my Rex get hit.

The exhaust covers where pretty banged up, rusted, and faded. I used a little hand anvil, and ball-pin hammer to get the dings out of course. Its winter here, so I let the parts sit on the fireplace for a while before painting them. Then used a heat gun to cure it.
I wrapped the headers, and sealed them with the exhaust paint.

It is a Logitech. I hear their new line is a lot better then the one I have. They are HD now.
