Default 1990 Ferrari 348 for sale

CAR HAS BEEN SOLD ! STOP BUMPING THIS THREAD !

would you buy this for $36,500 USD ($41,200 CAD)? cuz it's possibly for sale and the owner contacted me last night about buying it.Its located in Minnesota.
he's not 100% settled yet on selling it, but is considering it....
his email messages are below the pics..

Rob,
Just wanted to give you first shot at possibly buying my 348 if you are interested. I am still not 100% sure that I am going to sell the car but after being at Road America this weekend I decided that I really want to get a DSR or Radical and at the moment the only way my wife will let that happen is to sell the 348...so there it is sitting on the selling block.

As you know about everything in the car is new or has been rebuilt in the past three years and thus I am asking $36,500 for it at the moment. If you are possibly interested let me know otherwise I am going to probably post it in a few days here at some of the online dealers.

Rob - like I said I still am not 100% sure that I want to let the car go BUT I promised you first crack so I figured I would bounce the thought off you.

I could probably go on for hours about the car and the condition of it but as you can see from the pictures I had sent you its in really REALLY good shape both mechanically and body wise.

The main issue with the car and frankly why I took a bath on it when I bought it (and now when I am selling it with the price I have it at) was that unknown to me the car had an issue with the title stemming from the very first owner. I still have not been able to piece together what happened with the car and the first owner in Texas but what ever it was carfax ended up reporting the car as a theft recovery and thus pretty much marking it as a tainted car to all the Ferrari purist and no longer allowing me to get back what I paid for my baby. I obviously have a clear Minnesota title on the car that has a lien on it from my leveraging it to start Trackpedia. So thats the story behind the price of the car and why its significantly less than other 348's out there. Just to be honest I paid $65,000 for it when I purchased it and I feel like if I would have known about the Carfax issue I would have only paid mid 50's.

Beyond that issue the car is rock solid. It is however I have owned it since November 2001 and in that time have taken care of it to the Nth degree. Immediately after getting the car from Dayota Beach I had the 30k service performed by GT-Cars in the Minneapolis area which included valve adjustment, shims, belts, tensioners, clutch, flywheel and new main radiator. This service occured with 29k on the odometer. In 2002 I had the right rear wheel bearing replaced. In 2003 I took the cats and original exhaust off and put a Tubi exhaust on it along with Koenig cat replacement pipes because the original cats were shot. In 2004 the car worked perfect. In 2005 I put on a Brembo big brake kit, and the car worked perfect until the end of the year when the transmission went. I had the transmission rebuilt completely from the ground up with all new bearings, gears, gaskets, synchros, etc as well as replacing the bushings all around with poly ones and having the shocks revalved and rebuilt by Ferrarichat sponsor Delta Vee. This spring I did the front wheel bearings, new Yokohama R048's, and new brake pads. There are now 39700 miles on the odometer.

So needless to say I have pretty much been over all the mechanical aspects of the car in the past 5 years and most of the major ones are brand new or rebuilt meaning there should be years of trouble free driving ahead.

Issues with the car that I know of at the moment are the HVAC fan does not run, the windshield washer tank is not in the car as it was cracked and I never bothered to get a replacement in 4 years since I do not drive in the rain, and there is some corrosion on the truck floor panel due to the previous owner storing a spare battery in the front.

I am out of town at the moment on a business trip (main reason I havent been on trackpedia in a while) and will get you some more pictures when I return. There are some paint chips here and there as would be expected on the car. I cannot tell you if the paint is original or not but I would lean towards no because of the lower panels being painted and most shops spraying the whole car when they do that.

In all honesty I really feel bad about selling the car as I probably have a 360 worth it in upgrades and initial cost but to me its just not worth risking the car on the track and since I enjoy the time I spend there quite a bit I am more inclined to persue that interest at the moment and pick up another F-car later in life when the racing bug leaves me.

Bottomline to me anyone who buys this car is getting one of the best sorted 348's out there. I have taken excellent care of it and really worked hard at keeping it as a shining 348 example. Its a driver for sure and it always brings a smile to my face when I walk out and see it at work in the car park or am carving some corners on my favorite road.

Rob,
Thanks for the comments. Honestly if you are looking for a original car then I have to say that mine isn't for you. I have spent a lot of time fixing the mistakes Ferrari made (or addressed in later cars) so there are a lot of parts of the car that are not from the original 1990 series.

I can tell you that the engine is rock solid and there is nothing wrong internally with it. Compression tests are good with each cylinder within 3% of others. It is up for a major service next year as the 30k was done in over the winter of 2001-2002. Basically if you can do the work yourself its $1200 for the kit from Ricambi if you need a shop to do it you are looking at $4500-$5000. This was also factored into my asking price.

If I were looking to buy a $36,000 weekend toy, no...if I were looking to buy a $60,000 weekend toy, yes.

I say this because I feel like a person should have plenty of extra money budgeted toward a car like that.

Well, I don't know what your financial status is much less care but I could do a lot more with 36K than buy a 16 year old car.

i mean, it sounds cheap for a ferrari, but I have a feeling maintanence will be kinda frustrating. i mean, the stuff he listed for upcoming maintanence is kinda high, but then think about little things.

- insurance
- then what if you hit something in the road and fudge up a bumper? how much is an OEM front bumper? i dont think you can pick up little things like that as easy as you can a honda.

if you got the cash, then go for it. i mean, you can always sell it

i think its hot as *****.

and if hes replaced all that on the car......chances are hes prolly beat on it

so be careful if you want to buy it....

if somethings not broken on a car then it dont need to be fixed.....original parts = keeping the value.

like i said..if hes replaced all those parts....chances are hes beat on the car to some extent...

Buy it. Do the maitenance yourself, just gonna be harder than going to ebay for parts like a Honda lol. It's possible tho to get the parts.

I'm curious to see what the interior looks like, any pics?

It a 348, run the other way and do not look back. Please unless you have another 10K put aside for small stuff and are willing to do a lot of your own maint. just run.

Heck a 355 is easier to maintain then a 348 in my book.

EDIT
Plus it is a flat out lie or he got majorly hosed if he paid 65K for it, no one in there right mind would have paid 65K for a 348 three years ago.

Those rims look terrible.

I'd buy it, if I wasn't in the market for a house first.

Great price for a clean looking Ferrari.
