How to change Transmission fluid

Default How to change Transmission fluid - - 1998 Accord LX AT

I searched the forum and di not find anything.

I am a novice car mechanic. I have a 98 accord with 99K miles. I am looking to perform transmission service. My questions are:

1. Do I do drain and replace of transmission fluid.

2 If I have to do drain and flush, what exactly I need to replace...filter, other parts.

3. Do not have haynes manual , can some provide some help on how to do this right

4. Do I have to do complete flush and fill of tranny fluid.

5. How to do #4

1st remove drain plug (3/8' ratchet placed inside lefty loosey righty tighty)
2nd allow all fluid to drain out (10-15min) this works better if engine is warm.
3rd replace drain plug with new crush washer installed
4th pour in the recommended amount of Honda brand ATF ~3 quarts

Where do you put the fluid in at? Through the dip stick hole (buy a skinny funnel)

If you want to change the filter 1st remove tranny.... seriously the filters are inside the tranny and not designed to be changed ever.

If you want to flush these trannys all you do is repeat the 1st 4 steps 4 times and that will pretty much flush the system out, oh and make sure you run the car for about an hour between each change for maximum effectiveness

Oh and don't put anything other than Honda atf in

Here is the straight scoop. Honda recently issued a bulletin advising all dealerships not to use flushing machines. Not that there is a problem with the machines themselves, but it's the extra additives that are added to the ATF that Honda strictly advises against. As a matter of fact, these power flushes can actually void your factory warranty on a new Honda.
This is the recommended HONDA procedure. You will need 12 quarts of HONDA ATF (you can use another ATF, but it can actually make the transmission shift firmer than before, and some people don't like that).
NEVER ATTEMPT TO CRAWL UNDER A CAR WITH JUST A JACK HOLDING UP THE VEHICLE!

1) Put the front of the car up on jackstands with the wheels off the ground. Put a large container under drain plug.
2) Remove the transmission drain plug (3/8" drive ratchet works fine). Let transmission drain and wipe sludge off drain plug.
3) Reinstall drain plug and snug (not tighten). Fill transmission with three quarts of ATF.
4) Start engine and shift into drive. Gently accelerate and let transmission upshift through the gears (don't go over 50 MPH).
5) Step on brakes and bring speedo to 0.
6) Shift into reverse and accelerate to 20 MPH.
7) Bring speedo back to 0 with brakes. Shift to park and shut off engine.
8) Repeat steps 2 through 7 TWO MORE TIMES.
9) Drain the transmission once more. Reinstall drain plug and tighten firmly (don't forget to reinstall crush washer).
10) Remove jackstands and put vehicle on level ground.
11) Fill transmission with 2 1/2 quarts of ATF. Start engine. Shift to drive, then reverse, then put back in park and shut off engine.
12) Check transmission fluid level. Top off if needed to bring fluid level to the top of the crosshatch marks on the dipstick.

And that my friends, is how Honda says to do transmission flushes. Total cost? About $30.00 and maybe 1/2 hour to 45 minutes of your time .

an easier way to put tranny fluid in is through the vss sensor
