Description:
My Eclipse started out as a 1999 Eclipse Spyder GS. The model is a non-turbo SOHC 2.4l Automatic. The engine made roughly 141HP stock. I got tired of messing with the Non-turbo, since no aftermarket products were readily available. I decided to turbo my Eclipse. When I finally got around to doing it, I was told by a friend that he has a DOHC 2.0l head and complete turbo system for it. I was like, hell, lets do it. I performed the Hybrid head swap while replacing my pistons with JE slugs, rods with Pauter ones, and cams with a complete Crane Stage 1 Valvetrain setup. I Had every orifice ported from the head to the O2 housing. I am running a Starion front mount intercooler which was modified to send both pipes to one side of the vehicle. I had a few problems with my timing, and I think it is a little off still. I am still in the process of replacing my ECU with a FWD Turbo ECU. As I am typing this, my car is kinda put on hold for winter. I am stockpiling parts and saving money for a full AFC tune by Cortney Green at Phantom in SLC. The car went from slow to WOW after the swap. It is still Auto, but theres nothing cooler than mashing the gas and catching up with another car without putting down my pop. Bash on it all you want, but I am still the only person that I know of thats done the Hybrid 2.4 on an ORIGINAL 2.4 Spyder.
