Im looking for some advice on new tires. I just ordered a set 15" polished wheels for my eg hatch. i read in this forum to keep my speedometer reading accurate i should run 205/50/15 or 195/55/15. ive decided to go with the 205/50. I also read here that dunlop dirrezza 101's were a good performance summer tire.( car will only be summer driven.) my question is does anyone have any feedback on falken ziez ze-512? they are a 360 treadwear as opposed to the direzza's 300. any feedback on either tire is much appreciated.
thanks
john
edit: should of mentioned, trying to stay on the cheap side 250-300$
and another thing, wheels are 40mm offset. lowered 2.5" in the front and 2 rear will i rub with 205's?
thanks

if you are driving in the summer only some of your better choices are
1. falken 615
2. kumho xs
if you want more mileage the yoke s-drive is hard to beat. it's harder than the above two and will live longer. it just doesn't have quite as much at the limit traction. the s drive and the previous es100 were some of my favorite all purpose tires.
some of your above choices at 300 and 360 treadwear while being able to live awhile, are quite hard. the sdrive is a 280 and quite grippy for the treadwear.

Since the car is only summer driven, you don't want to get the Falken Ziex ZE-512. That's an all-season tire (and not a very good one, either). All-seasons are designed to be able to be used in snow, and the trade-off for that greater flexibility is that they don't perform as well as summer tires in moderate to warm temperatures. Since these tires won't be used in winter, you're better off getting summer tires.
There are two different kinds of summer tires you can get in 195/50-15. There are supersticky "extreme performance" summer tires, designed for those who are looking for the maximum traction on dry pavement, such as those who occasionally use the tires in autocross; downsides of these tires are that they don't last all that long (15-20K miles at most, even less for the Azenis) and they're just okay in rain. The previously mentioned Azenis and Kumho XS are this kind of tire, but aren't available in 195/50-15. Bridgestone and Toyo make tires like this in 195/50-15. However, since you're concerned about price, I'm guessing this really isn't the best choice for your needs.
The other kind of summer tire is the "budget performance", "ultra high performance" type. They still offer very good grip on dry pavement, and they're excellent in rain; they also last much longer, anywhere from 25K to 40K miles. Since you're looking for price and value, this would be a much better choice. The Yokohama S.drive is one of the best of this class of tire. The 195/50-15 is very affordable, for $72/tire including free shipping at Discount Tire Direct, MUCH better than the DZ101 for only a dollar more per tire.
