Default Tire damage?

I have Kumho SPTs with ~4k miles on them. I hit a pothole/ditch and a piece of my tire came off. It was ~25" sliver of tire about the size of the L/R end of thin earphones. It runs at a 5% angle across the middle bar of the tire (where the words are printed). It's negligible relative to the amount of tread I have left, but will this affect tire performance? In the rain? In terms of wear (will it start wearing around the damage abnormally? Affect braking? Should I get a new tire just to be safe? Should I do a quick burnout and even it out?

No seriously though, anyone ever experience this?

As long as the chunk that came out isn't deeper than the deepest tread groove, and doesn't cover a huge area, I wouldn't worry about it.
