Default Spacer question

Sorry, I searched the FAQ, and can't seem to find this question, and the new search option on HT really sucks.

I bought a set of slipstreams for the beater, turns out they're 16x8 +48. The dude I bought em from had no idea as to what offsets where, but I got them for a steal with good tires to I grabbed them. Problem is, the wheels are rubbing my upper control arm and touching my trailing arm. With a spacer, I know I can clear them and not have a problem. I tired with a shitty spare one I had kicking around the house, it was a 10mm and the problem is that the lugs wouldn't thread because the wheel was too pushing them too far. What's the widest spacer I can run without running ARP extended studs?

Thanks!

Extended lug nuts won't allow you to run a larger spacer. Extended lug studs will, and they'll net you about a 25mm spacer.

Sorry, I fixed the post. I meant to say ended studs (not nuts) I wanna run aftermarket lugs nuts and OEM studs, without getting the ARP extended ones.

See how many turns you have, and measure the distance between threads to figure it out. You need a minimum of 6.5-7.0 full turns on the lug nuts for the wheels to be secure.
