Quick tires question!!
I just bought some 15" rims came with 60 series tires. two of the tires need to be replaced. my question is, can i replace those 2tires with 55s tires and leave the other 2 with 60s tires. will they run just fine???
It depends on what the complete tire size is (including treadwidth) and what kind of car they are used on (year, model, version). Care to share?
195/60-15 is a bit big for a 2000 Civic. But I can understand the desire not to just throw away tires that still have usable tread on them. If you wanted, you could try it, using the two 195/60-15 tires; I would put both of them on the rear. If and when one goes, replace both of them with 195/55-15, so you don't have mismatched sizes on the same axle.
Also beware the safety issue with mismatched tires. When tires differ drastically in their performance, they can adversely affect the handling of the car, sometimes in unpredictable ways. For example, let's say you have sticky summer tires on the front of the car, and not-so-sticky all-seasons on the rear. In warm weather, the car will have a tendency to oversteer (the rear end of the car tends to swing around on you when you're in a turn). In cold weather, the car will have a tendency to understeer (it tends to go straight ahead even when you're turning the wheel). This is why it's best to have four matching tires, so you don't have to deal with these adverse effects. Especially if you plan to drive your car briskly.
