Default Puncture right on the edge of sidewall

I pulled a rusted piece of metal out of the tire on my wife's Pilot and went flat in about 3 minutes. I plugged it so the car wasn't sitting on the wheel in the driveway, but I'm going to say this tire is junk. Agree?

My bigger question is whether this tire can be safely driven on while I await the replacement to arrive from Tire Rack. I put 2 or 3 miles on it yesterday and pressure is still the same this morning. I've got snows on a 2nd set of wheels if this looks like a failure ready to happen though.

It the hole is not round then it is much harder to seal. You could remove the tire and put a flat patch on the inside? But if a new tire is on the way that would sort of be a waste. I wouldn't take it on the highway.

Thanks Fitz.

I went ahead and put a snow tire back on this corner for now. I'll see if the tire shop thinks it's safe to patch from the inside to keep as a spare when they swap it out with the new one.

Thanks for your input!
