Default Performance Street Tire

Alright, I need a set of performance street tires for this coming summer. Need recommendations. I'm thinking something like a Yokohama Advan or Dunlop Direzza. What do you guys think?

What kind of car is this, what kind of mileage are you looking to get out of them, what size tire are you looking at, ...

All these sorts of questions are needing to be answered before we can give you help here.

It's an ek sedan. I would like to get a full season out of them. The size will be 225/45or50/15.

225 is not the most common, especially in smaller diameter ( which i assumed since you have an Ek).

what kind of power ru pushing & do yoy really need 225s?
if yoy decide to go for a narrower tire, a lot more options will open up

The sizes mentioned above are going to be tough to find. Even with a 205 width there won't be many options for a high performance rubber compound.

I am not pushing much power. The car is almost stock. Want to drive it a season on low power with my suspension set up before starting performance mods.
The reason for the width is I was given 9" wheels that I would like to use considering they were free. I know that's crazy for a civic but I'll be doing a fender flare to make sure they fit.

The price difference between DOT-R Yokohama and equivalent Dunlop is almost double. I honestly never see anyone at the track running Yokohamas...maybe a Porsche guy but that's it.

Look into the Dunlop Direzza Z1 or Bridgestone Potenza RE-11.

You see them all the time both at the track and on the street. The owners of both of these tires absolutely love them. I personally have run multiple sets of RE-11 and will keep purchasing them until they become unavailable.

My car is like yours, underpowered, yet suspension is built and dialed. Autocross and twisties mixed in with my commutes to work. Tires are all around great..getting about 20k miles out of this particular set this far (haven't hit the track much).

Thanks a lot guys. I think the dunlops or bridgestones are perfect for my current needs. By any chance have any of you used any Nitto performance tires? If so, thoughts?

Nitto ehhhhh, the NT-01R is head and shoulders better than both tires mentioned above, but tread wear rating is 100 and they'll wear down on the street way faster than you want them to. If you're willing to deal with that, go for it. They're not as good in the wet compared to Bridgestone and Dunlop offerings. Look into Toyo offerings as well... R1-R and R888.

I've used Falken Azenis RT615K's and they are quite sticky. Same as you with an underpowered car with good suspension setup and they felt good to me (however not much else to personally compare to) and they're fairly inexpensive. They don't last the longest but they'll last you a season no problem.

Good info!

Here's a link to a very informative real-world comparison between a few of the more popular EP tires --> http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/8391...gestone-re-11/

Here's a nice comparison of the new BFG rival, maybe you could consider that one.

Here's a link for the introductory test that we did with BFG. We hope to test the Rival in late Spring at our test tack against a multitude of brands for a better picture.

I've heard great things about continental extremecontact DW from a couple of turbo guys. I plan on picking up a set as my summer tires for my EP3 in size 225/50R16
